EDGEWOOD, WA — A father is dead and four armed robbery suspects are on the loose after a violent attack that started with a Craigslist ad.

According to Detective Ed Troyer, three men and a woman arrived at a home on 106th Avenue Court East late Wednesday night.

Texas–A 29-year-old Richwood woman has been jailed on a $125,000 bond after she allegedly sent an undercover detective more than 100 pictures of children engaged in sexual activity.

The suspect, Carrie Louise Kelly, was taken into custody on Thursday after police confiscated several computers, DVDs and pictures the previous night.

Cleveland, OH - The 15-year-old boy just couldn’t stand to see his brother being abused any longer, so he decided to do something about it.

“My little brother is downstairs tied up to a table and he’s trying to get out,” said the young caller to a 911 dispatcher. “Who did this to him?” asked the dispatcher. “My mom makes my sister tie him up every night or she gets beat.”

SANFORD — An Altamonte Springs husband and wife accused of sexually abusing a young girl and videotaping it are going to prison.

Paul and Virginia Crowley pleaded no contest Wednesday to six sex crimes each. In exchange, they were ordered to prison for 25 years.

HURRICANE, Washington County — Hurricane police are seeking information regarding a child rape case that may span two counties.

Brady Heber Aiken, 26, was arrested Thursday for investigation of rape of a child and aggravated sexual abuse of a child after he came to police and told them he wanted to talk, Hurricane police spokeswoman Nancy Perkins said. Officers interviewed Aiken and then booked him into the Washington County Jail.

CARRBORO — A father remains jailed on a child-abuse charge after police say he permanently blinded his 1-year-old daughter in an assault.

Christopher Ray McBride, 28, is being held on $500,000 bail, increased from an initial $125,000.

A Gwent Police officer who was part of a British paedophile ring which swapped images of child abuse has been jailed for a year at Newport Crown Court.

Det Con Michael Thomas, a 40-year-old married father-of-two, was convicted of distributing, making and possessing indecent images earlier this month.

FITCHBURG, Wis. — A Fitchburg day care provider accused of abusing children was released from jail on a signature bond Thursday as police and prosecutors said they continued to compile evidence.

Neighbors who know Michelle Christensen, 40, said they were in disbelief and were wondering if it was just a misunderstanding.Neighbors on Osmundsen Street in Fitchburg said they were stunned to learn Christensen, owner of an in-home day care, is suspected of abusing four infants in her care.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY (WTVD) — Social workers in Cumberland County are scrambling to get a handle on a spike in reported child abuse cases.

Last month, the number of reported cases jumped 46 percent. There were 427 reported cases of child abuse in Cumberland County involving more than 800 children.

Police have arrested a 26-year-old Gillette man who they say physically abused a 4-year-old girl.

Thomas John Thelen is expected to be charged with felony child abuse.

He was arrested Wednesday night after his girlfriend’s daughter was flown by air ambulance to Denver. The girl, whose name was not released, has bleeding on her brain.

A Bacchus Elementary School teacher’s aide was charged Thursday with child abuse for allegedly hitting an autistic student.

According to charging documents filed in 3rd District Court, two students witnessed the woman hit the 12-year-old boy on the shoulder and hit him on the back of the head causing him to fall over.

Midland County, TX- On Monday, Midland County deputies were alerted by CPS after a woman showed up at their office with a cell phone video of her roommate, 29-year old Kristi Michelle Kaulaity.

The woman, a 33-year old female, told deputies Kaulaity was intoxicated around 2:30 a.m. last Friday and became impatient with her 1-year old son. The woman said she started video taping Kaulaity with her cell phone because she was concerned for the child. The video showed Kaulaity pushing her son away from her several times before she put him on the couch, grabbed a pillow and covered his face with it while he cried.

• 152,265 of the persons reported missing in 2000 were categorized as either endangered or involuntary.
• The number of missing persons reported to law enforcement has increased from 154, 341 in 1982 to 876,213 in 2000. That is an increase of 468%.

Abuse reports are continuing to rise here, across nation

It’s difficult to talk about child abuse, but the subject is very important. And it is being talked about a lot this month because April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. Unfortunately, child abuse is a fact of life in many Rowan County families, as in families across the state and nation.

Annually, more than 3.5 million children are reported to child protective services agencies as victims of child abuse and neglect. Mirroring the nation, the number of reports of child abuse and neglect in North Carolina continues to rise, according to the state Department of Health and Human Services. In fiscal year 2009, the state had 67,397 reports of abuse or neglect, up from 58,815 in fiscal year 1998.

Child advocates can’t explain county’s 5-year increase, but economy plays role.

The number of reported child abuse and neglect cases in Mecklenburg County rose 22 percent between 2004 and 2009, according to a study released Wednesday.

Researchers found there were 12,232 reports of abuse or neglect between July 1, 2008, and June 30, 2009 – about 2,200 more than during the same time span from 2004 to 2005.

Maternal methamphetamine use is seen as a factor.

An increase in Los Angeles County’s infant mortality rate in 2007 erased much of the progress made since 2003, according to an annual report released Tuesday.

The report from the Inter-Agency Council on Child Abuse and Neglect is based on statistics gathered by child abuse experts, law enforcement and social welfare agencies. The report analyzes the deaths of children who were killed by caregivers, committed suicide or died in accidents, and tracks overall abuse reports.

Michael Louis Anthony, 43, is charged with having a sexual relationship with a then 15-year-old girl and is currently in jail.

A 46 percent jump in child-abuse reports last month has Cumberland County officials worried that their depleted ranks of social workers won’t be able to protect vulnerable youths.

The county Department of Social Services received 427 reports of child abuse or neglect in March, up from 292 in February. The highest previous monthly total since last summer – 354 – came in December.

ONE OF THE FOUNDERS of the online encyclopedia Wikipedia told the FBI that the outfit was serving up kiddie porn.

Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger, who left the project in 2002 due to what he described as “disagreements” whinged to the feds about drawings of kids and cartoons accompanying some paedophilia-related entries. In his view such graphics were depictions of child abuse.

RACINE – Authorities are investigating a former Racine County Human Services Department employee accused of filing false reports on child abuse cases he never investigated.

Todd O’Brien, a child protective services initial assessment worker, was fired this week for allegedly filing detailed reports about child abuse cases he was supposed to be investigating.
