A U.S. Army major who had 30,000 images and 100 videos of child pornography on his computers now faces rape and sodomy charges in Arlington for allegedly raping an infant.

Daniel A. Woolverton faces up to 30 years in prison when he’s sentenced in Alexandria’s federal court on Friday. Among the videos found on his computers in his Arlington home were images of Woolverton having sex with a 2- to 3-month-old baby, court documents said. After his sentencing, he’ll head to Arlington County’s Circuit Court to face the rape and sodomy charges.

A Butler County couple today pleaded guilty to Rape and GSI involving a 12 year old girl.

Police say William Bayless and Brenda Middleton Bayless of Lemon Township lived in the same mobile home park as the victim.

INDIANAPOLIS — The recent death of an 8-month-old infant, authorities say at the hands of his mother’s boyfriend, underscores a common thread in the abuse of babies.

Indiana child protection experts said in many cases, the male caretakers of infants and babies are responsible for abuse that severely injuries of kills children, 6News’ Ericka Flye reported. Experts point to many instances over the years, including the death of Carter McCord. Aaron Spears, 31, the boyfriend of the infant’s mother, was held on neglect, battery and criminal recklessness charges.

WINNIPEG — A new national program, piloted in Manitoba, will help child-care centres across Canada detect and deal with sexual predators.

About 650 daycare centres across Manitoba — and 10,000 organizations across Canada — will soon receive information kits detailing policies, strategies and a step-by-step plan for reducing the risk of child sexual abuse. The new program encourages organizations to take a more active role in protecting kids in their care.

Diane Knight, MSW, chair of the National Review Board of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, noted in an interview ten points that the Board members have learned in dealing with victim/survivors of sexual abuse of minors by clergy. Knight, a native of Milwaukee, is a social worker with 30 years experience in child protection. She was named to head the Review Board in 2009.

WATKINSVILLE, Ga. — A judge in Oconee County sentenced a couple who kept the woman’s son locked in a closet to 40 years apiece in prison and called it the worst case involving child abuse he’d handled in a dozen years.
Superior Court Judge Steve Jones sentenced 36-year-old Damita Devonna Peak and 39-year-old Norris Lazarus Walker on Thursday after a jury convicted them of false imprisonment, child cruelty and battery. They were acquitted of aggravated assault charges.

SOUTH SALT LAKE — A South Salt Lake couple faces charges of child abuse and reckless endangerment after one of their children was found wandering in the street.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports police found a 5-year-old girl walking in the rain without a coat or shoes April 12. When they took her home to the 100 East block of Sunset Avenue (2855 South), they found the house full of rotting garbage and broken furniture. Egg shells and motor oil covered the floor in the kitchen.

A woman faces a charge of felony child abuse after witnesses reported she was repeatedly whipping a 7-year-old child with a belt, city police reported.

It was 5:10 p.m. Thursday when police responded to the parking lot a business in the 3300 block of Victory Blvd. for an assault in progress. Police arrived and spoke with several witnesses who said a woman had been beating the child “many times” with the belt, and would stop, then start again.

SAN ANTONIO, TX – A woman is fighting for custody of her daughter one year after the child was found by a bus driver sitting in the middle of a busy street.

“I couldn’t tell exactly what it was,” said bus driver Michael Hubbard.

Chicopee, MA- And police are saying this was no joke. On Monday afternoon, 24-year old Matthew Brace along with his girlfriend and their 3-month old baby girl entered the gas station located near an Econo Lodge, where the couple had been staying on public assistance. A maintenance worker at the station asked Brace how old was the child.

GREELEY, Colo. — A badly decomposed body discovered early Wednesday morning in a Greeley ditch by an irrigation worker is believed to be that of Kayleah Wilson, the 12-year-old Greeley girl who has been missing for nearly two months.

The girl, who vanished March 28 while walking to a friend’s birthday party, has been the subject of widespread searches.

Martin Smith appears in court in Carlisle to face 13 charges of sexual assault unrelated to death of his children.

The father of two young British children found dead in a Spanish hotel room yesterday appeared in court in England today charged with a series of sexual assaults and child rape.

Martin Smith, 45, who is from North Shields, had been on the run from the British authorities for several years. He was arrested by police in Barcelona on 7 May.

WENATCHEE, Wash. — An 86-year-old Wenatchee man has been accused of raping a girl over a six-year period, starting when she was six.

The Wenatchee World reports John W. Garrity was charged Friday in Chelan County Superior Court with child rape and molestation.
