COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 5-year-old Marion boy is still hospitalized in critical condition following the arrest of his mother’s boyfriend on charges related to child abuse.

Michael J. Brown, 35, of Marion, was ordered held over the weekend on $500,000 bail. He faces charges of felonious assault and child endangering, along with probation violations, 10TV News reported.

Police arrested Brown last week at the Crescent Heights Road home he shared with the child’s mother, and her son, Damien Baker, 5.

GRAND CHUTE, Wis. (WTAQ) – A Grand Chute man is arrested for allegedly shooting a 3-year-old boy with a BB gun in the abdomen. Authorities were called to an apartment Sunday on West Fourth Street for an abuse allegation. Investigators searching the home found a BB pistol and drugs.

BULGARIA–Charges of criminal negligence are being prepared in Bulgaria over nearly 200 cases of death and abuse in institutions for children with learning disabilities.

Prosecutors have made the move following a six month investigation into years of abuse in more than 25 care homes. It was carried out by the country’s branch of the Helsinki Committee for human rights.

“We saw things that were incomprehensible to me,” said the chief prosecutor. The report uncovered more than 30 cases where children had died from malnutrition, as well as dozens of other instances of violence or mistreatment. In some cases children had been tied up for months.

STEVENSON, AL – A Jackson County man has been indicted on 18 counts of child abuse. Investigators say Sherman McBryar is a suspect in one of the worst cases they’ve ever seen.

McBryar, 30, of Stevenson, is charged with willful abuse of a child under 18. The two girls he is accused of abusing are one and two years old. Part of the charges involve McBryar allegedly forcing the girls to wear homemade straight jackets.

The Birmingham Police Department tells CBS42 today that two suspects have been charged in connection with a child abuse investigation that began on Thursday, September, 16 2010. The victim was transported to Children’s Hospital by Birmingham Fire and Rescue after suffering extensive head injuries. The victim currently remains in the Intensive Care Unit. The victim is a two year boy.

OWENSVILLE, Ind. — A woman flagged down a police officer Thursday night informing him that she was worried about her daughter, 30-year-old Natalie Lawson, after her daycare had called letting her know that she had never shown up to pick up her child. The officer went to the Lawson’s residence and after getting no response from knocking, he entered the unlocked door. Inside the messy house, they found Lawson standing in the living room, nervous and unable to sit down. She informed the officer that she had not slept in two days due to all the meth she had smoked.

MILWAUKEE, Wisonsin – A man waiting in jail on sex assault charges just added a couple more felonies under his belt after trying to hire another inmate to kill his victim so they could not testify. Sunil Singh was accused of getting a 14-year-old drunk back in March before raping and beating her in the basement of an apartment building. While awaiting trial, police say that Singh enlisted the help of another prisoner in an effort to win his case — by killing the teen victim.

Lake Orion, MI – An FBI agent was online trolling for perverts when she stumbled across Rev. William Bendert, the pastor for King of Kings Lutheran Church in Lake Orion. The undercover agent posed as a single mother looking for a man to provide sexual training for her 11-year-old duaghter. Bendert was up for the job, stating he has some experience with this kind of thing, providing the same service for three other young girls. This service included teaching various sexual techniques and the girls learn about their body.

AUSTRALIA–A Central Victorian man has been sentenced to 26 years in jail for child sex offences. Dennis Goudge, 57, of Bendigo, pleaded guilty to 58 offences against boys and girls as young as four years old.

Members of the FBI descended on a Kirkwood home Thursday morning, Sept. 9, arresting Bradley Cook, 31, for his alleged role in both viewing and participating in the torture of a young woman.

Cook and four other Missouri men were indicted by a federal grand jury for their involvement in a commercial sex trafficking conspiracy. According to the indictment, the operation lasted for seven years, beginning in 2002 when a 16-year-old runaway was taken in by Edward Bagley Sr., 43, of Lebanon, Mo. She was eventually beaten, sexually tortured and held as Bagley’s “sexual slave.”

WINNIPEG–Two suspects face a number of charges in connection with a severe case of child abuse, said police.

One of the suspects charged is the young boy’s biological mother, while the second suspect charged is her boyfriend.

On Sept. 8, a six-year-old boy went to a neighbour’s house with a broken arm in Winnipeg’s south end. Emergency crews were called and the boy was subsequently taken into the care of Child and Family Services.

Authorities on Friday broke up a child pornography ring that made sexually explicit films inside the national penitentiary with youths who passed as relatives of inmates, prosecutors said.

Prosecutor Teresa Martinez said two inmates and a third person who was on parole were implicated in the ring.

“In two cellblocks there were sets where explicit sex was filmed. There were machines and connections to download them to the internet. They had film and digital cameras,” Martinez said.

“The actors came and went as relatives of the inmates,” she said.

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, DADE COUNTY, GA (WRCB) – A Dade County man will spend 8 years in prison for incest.

Richard Bryson pleaded guilty and was sentenced to an additional 12 years probation as a sex offender. Bryson was arrested in March when police were called to his home to investigate an infant death.

A man who was indicted in Logan County last week on numerous charges of sexual and physical abuse against children may also have been involved in the disappearance of two teenage girls in Texas over 20 years ago.

Kevin Slater, 42 of Auburn, was indicted last week on charges that he both sexually and physically abused three children under the age of 12. He appeared in Logan Circuit Court on Thursday for his arraignment.
