BOISE — A Boise man is under arrest for lewd conduct with a minor and investigators are concerned there may be more victims. Twenty-eight-year-old Russell Parker was arrested after police say he abused a 3-year-old boy that he was babysitting.

EDINBURGH, Scotland – Pope Benedict XVI braved a chilly atmosphere Thursday in mostly secular Britain to issue his strongest comments yet on the sex abuse crisis, admitting that the Catholic Church had not acted decisively or quickly enough to remove priests who molested children.

Speaking to reporters traveling with him from Rome, Benedict said the church’s top priority now was to help abuse victims heal — yet the comments failed to satisfy victims’ groups.

Tulsa, OK – According to police, 23-year-old Janette Mickelboro was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the death of her 3-month-old son, Hunter Thompson Warner, on August 20. Authorities say that when Janette got up to check on the child early that morning, she reportedly tied a receiving blanket around his face to hold his pacifier in place, before placing him in a bouncy chair. Several hours later, as she readied herself for work, she checked on the boy and found him to be “stiff and cold.”

Knoxville, TN – Police have arrested 49-year-old Bob Robinson and charged him with sexual exploitation of a minor because his girlfriend tattled on him after finding some rather questionable items in the home the two shared. The 37-year-old woman called police on Wednesday to report she had found several pairs of “little girl panties” wrapped up in Bob’s do-rag – panties that did not belong to her. She also told police she found inappropriate and obscene pictures of children on his computer.

Phoenix, AZ – Phoenix police received a rather interesting call from one Gaylord Winston Barnes earlier this week – he apparently called to tell ‘em he had just finished masturbating in front of a 2-year-old child. Gaylord went on to say he was babysitting the little girl while her mother, his neighbor, was at an appointment. When officers responded to the home, Gaylord was kind enough to escort them into the bedroom where the child was asleep in her crib. Also present in the room were the soiled tissues and towel he had used to clean up with after rubbing one off. It wasn’t the first time – Gaylord reportedly told the officers he had masturbated in front of the child on at least six separate occasions in the last two months. Twice, he said, he put his penis near the child’s mouth and she bit it. He also admitted to digitally penetrating the child on several occasions.

HIGHLAND PARK, CA — Police are searching for a suspect who attempted to kidnap a 12-year-old girl on her way to Luther Burbank Middle School Monday morning. It happened around 7 a.m. in an alley adjacent to the Metro Gold Line between Avenue 60 and Avenue 61 in the Highland Park area of Los Angeles.

Police say a black man driving an older model dark blue van with tinted windows stopped his vehicle and pretended to inspect it in the alleyway when he grabbed the young girl as she walked by and tried to pull her into the van.

RANCHO PALOS VERDES — Los Angeles County Sheriff’s detectives released photographs Thursday of a man wanted for breaking into a Rancho Palos Verdes home and stroking the hair of a sleeping teenage girl. The photos were taken from surveillance video of the man about five hours before the break-in last week at an undisclosed location.

NEW YORK — The mother of an Alabama teen who vanished in Aruba in 2005 entered a Peruvian jail and talked directly with the Dutchman suspected in her daughter’s disappearance, her attorney said Friday.

In an interview on NBC’s “Today,” lawyer John Q. Kelly said Natalee Holloway’s mother Beth Twitty entered the jail “without violating any laws or breaking any regulations” and spoke with Joran van der Sloot.

GLENDALE — Police are warning parents in Glendale, La Crescenta and Montrose about so-called “cabinet parties” — a new trend involving teens and prescription drugs.

Glendale police officers met with parents Wednesday night at Verdugo Hills Hospital to warn them about the dangers lurking in their medicine cabinets.

CALABASAS — Sheriff’s deputies are searching for a man accused of trying to sexually assault an 8-year-old girl in Calabasas. The attempted assault occurred at approximately 2:45 p.m. Wednesday in the 23600 block of Park Capri, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officials said.

The legitimacy of a man’s trek across the country by bicycle to bring awareness to teen suicide recently has come into question.

David Alexander told multiple newspapers that his teenage daughter Angela killed herself after his wife died of cancer. He claimed to be from Durand and was featured in The Argus-Press in December 2009.

The Argus-Press initially contacted Alexander, now believed to be one-time sex offender Michael Rabitaille, via phone through a newspaper in the southeast United States after that paper wrote about his travels and identified him as being from Durand.

A boy has been arrested for his alleged part in a crime so disgusting, so repulsive, that it’s enough to make one physically sick.

The crime in question is the gang rape of a 16-year-old girl by a group of at least five men at a rave in Pitt Meadows last Friday. The boy who was arrested, also 16-years-old, is believed to be responsible for taking and distributing photos of the assault (on Facebook) and is going to be charged accordingly.

American children are identified as victims of child abuse, but this number could be woefully underestimated considering how many cases go unreported and unrecognized. According to a new study in the Journal of Pediatrics, part of this problem can be attributed to the lack of attention to pharmaceutical-related abuse. Researchers discovered an alarming number of incidents involving young kids purposely receiving inappropriate doses of substances, enough to warrant bringing awareness to this dangerous abuse. In addition to sedatives, some of the most common drugs used as a form of abuse included antidepressants, antihistamines, and pain killers.
