VALLEJO— A Vacaville couple faces a preliminary hearing in Vallejo Wednesday for allegedly physically abusing their nine-month-old son. Michael Louie Hernandez, 31, and his 38-year-old wife Colleen Lynn Hernandez are being held without bail in Solano County Jail. Vacaville police arrested them Nov. 13 for attempted murder, child abuse and conspiracy. They also are charged with inflicting injury on a child, according to the Solano County jail’s booking log.

A former school teacher and foster care provider was sentenced Tuesday to 25 years in prison for producing and possessing child pornography. Gregg Alan Larsen, 49, of Minneapolis, admitted to creating child pornography using children in his care. He admitted to two incidents, in April and July 2006, in which he took digital photographs of a child younger than 12 engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Larsen said he intended to distribute those images over the Internet. In addition, Larsen acknowledged that on July 1, 2009, he possessed eight video files containing child pornography as well as more than 600 images of child pornography. Those items were kept on Larsen’s home computer.

DELAND, Fla. — Volusia County sheriff’s deputies arrested a DeLand man Saturday who they said sexually abused two children he was caring for.David Barberi, 57, was taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach on two counts and sexual battery and two counts of child abuse charges.Investigators said a family member called the Sheriff’s Office at about 9 p.m. Friday to report the incident.

Mr. Standley wanted to shed light on the darkness that children suffer in, and honor the film makers that expose their plights. He screened some new and past documentaries that showed the suffrage of children and youth. He singled out, and honored some of the great journalists and producers, that cover these concerns on film, tv, and the Internet, and met some of the directors of these child abuse organizations, and created a forum with the film makers.

New Haven, MI- A 28-year-old woman will be arraigned this afternoon in connection with the Saturday murder and rape of her 2-year-old stepdaughter. Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith announced he has charged the woman with felony murder, first-degree child abuse and first-degree criminal sexual conduct in the death of Lily Lynette Furneaux-Wolfengarber. The woman will appear at 1:30 p.m. in New Baltimore District Court. The murder and criminal sexual conduct charges are life felonies. The child abuse charge is a 15-year felony.

Tampa, FL — Felipe “Jiovani” Toledo has been booked on charges of lewd and lascivious battery and contributing to the delinquency of a minor after posing as a 16-year-old and gettin’ naughty with a 13-year-old girl. According to police, Toledo convinced the victim’s parents his mother had recently died and he had nowhere to go. Sympathetic, the family allowed the man to move into their home. He had been staying there with them for about two weeks before the family grew suspicious and kicked him to the curb – their daughter went with him. The girl’s family called police on Tuesday to report their daughter missing, and investigators determined that Toledo was actually 28-years-old.

PEARLAND, TX – Joshua Wilkerson, 18, was reported missing on Tuesday after no one had heard from him since leaving school earlier that day. Later that evening, his parents would find his truck abandoned at a strip mall and police would take in a classmate, 19-year-old Hermilo Moralez, loitering near the area and acting suspicious. A massive search began on Wednesday morning, searchers later being directed to a field by Moralez, where they would find Wilkerson’s partially burned body. Moralez confessed to the killing, telling them he and Wilkerson, whom he had known for five years, got into a fight after Wilkerson allegedly made sexual advances towards him. The fight ended with Moralez beating the teen to death with a wooden rod.

BANGKOK (AP) — On the grounds of a Buddhist temple, dozens of white plastic bags lay in carefully arranged rows. Each sack was knotted at the top and contained the remains of a fetus. Thai authorities found about 2,000 remains in the temple’s mortuary, where they had been hidden for a year — apparently to conceal illegal abortions. A strong stench had drawn police to the temple in Bangkok’s old city Tuesday, and authorities searching the mortuary — where bodies awaiting cremation are normally kept — initially found more than 300 fetuses. They returned Friday to find more than five times that number, according to police Lt. Col. Kanathud Musiganont.

ORANJESTAD, Aruba ( KTLA) — Prosecutors in Aruba say a jawbone found on an island beach earlier this month does not belong to missing Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway. Analysis based on dental records ruled out that the bone fragment came from her. Officials determined the jawbone belonged to a young woman, raising speculation the bone may have been the remains of 18-year-old Holloway who was last seen on the island in 2005.

COVINGTON, Ga. – I shouldn’t take up a portion of this post by gloating about how I already knew that the raccoons that attacked a sleeping baby were probably family pets, but lookie there…I already did. For those of you who are link impaired, police were called to a home earlier this month after a 9-month-old baby was attacked by two raccoons while it slept in its crib. One raccoon was shot and killed at the scene after it became aggressive towards responders, the other was captured and tested negative for rabies. The infant would survived the severe bites to her head face and hands, but investigators were looking into whether the raccoons were wild or were pets.

Desha, AR — Two days after the body of 2-year-old Harley Davidson was found in the refrigerator of her mother’s home, capital murder charges have been filed against mom’s boyfriend, 26-year-old Jesse Holloman. According to the child’s mother, Kristy Davidson, she had left Harley with Jesse Saturday night so she could work. The next morning, Jesse showed up at her place of employment and told her something had happened to the baby during the night…she was dead. Kristy raced home and ran directly to the bedroom, searching for her child. When she couldn’t find Harley, she ran next door to get help. When she returned to the trailer, she noticed all of the food that was once in the fridge was now sitting on the counter. She then opened the refrigerator door and found her little girl in a box with some sort of net-type cloth over her head.

LEESBURG, Fla. – A 40-year-old music teacher at First Academy, a private Christian school in Leesburg, was fired from his job after surveillance video captured him sharing a passionate kiss with a 15-year-old student. Police were notified after a church employee reviewing video footage observed Frisbie making out with the teen girl inside the sanctuary. Frisbie was fired immediately. When the Florida Department of Children and Families interviewed the pair, they admitted to the two-month long relationship that included “kissing, hugging and touching all over” that began one month after the death of Frisbie’s wife.
