WINNIPEG – A Winnipeg woman has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the suffocation death of her 20-month-old daughter. Nicole Redhead will be sentenced early next year. Redhead, 28, was arrested in July 2009 after her daughter Jaylene was found dead in a suite at the Native Women’s Transition Centre in Winnipeg. Redhead had repeatedly assaulted the girl in the days leading up to her death, Crown attorney Colleen McDuff told court Wednesday. The toddler suffered 30 separate injuries, including severe bruising and swelling to her vagina and bite marks on her legs.

BATAVIA – A pregnant Clermont County woman was sentenced Wednesday to 15 years in prison in the death of her 2-year-old son, whom prosecutors said had been “tortured” on a daily basis. Krystle M. Hoskins, 24, had pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence in the death of Jerry Wells Jr. In imposing the maximum sentence allowed under Ohio law, Judge William Walker said it was the worst case of child abuse he had had presided over in his nearly 24 years in Common Pleas Court. Her husband, Timothy W. Hoskins, 42, who pleaded guilty to the June 1 murder of his stepson, was sentenced in October to life in prison. The boy died of asphyxiation, perhaps from being strangled.

CHARLES CITY, Iowa — It was a bittersweet scene for Rene and Edvilla Banes of Charles City, parents of 3-year-old Krystel Banes. As they awaited the start of sentencing proceedings Monday for the 15-year-old who killed their daughter in July 2009, the couple and their son Banjo showed off the newest member of their family, 21-week-old Precious Angel.

Judge Bryan McKinley sentenced Edgar Concepcion Jr. Monday in Floyd County District Court to the mandatory terms of life in prison without the possibility of parole on the counts of first-degree murder and first-degree sexual abuse. He was sentenced to up to 25 years on the charge of sexual abuse in the second degree and up to five years on the charge of child endangerment.

CLEVELAND – A Cleveland man, who is HIV positive, has been accused of raping a teenage boy that he met at the Cleveland Christian Home for Children. Officials said the suspect, 34-year-old Ronnie Sagere, was working with troubled youth at the home while the victim was staying there in 2007. The victim was discharged back to his parents that same year and lost touch with Sagere. Prosecutors said, a few months ago, the two became friends on Facebook.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Columbus man, who is accused in his infant son’s death, is arraigned on murder charges Thursday. Quindell Sherman, 20, was arrested Tuesday night after Columbus homicide detectives said he threw his 3-month-old son to the ground several times and then threw the infant in a trash bin. The infant later died at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Sherman’s bond was set at $2.5 million during the Thursday morning arraignment hearing.

East Brookfield, MA – On October 21, a 3-year-old child was transported by ambulance to the UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester after she started “nodding off.’’ Police were notified after hospital staff found a needle mark on the child’s arm and heroin in her system. At that point, the little girl was placed in state custody and authorities began hunting for her mother’s boyfriend, 30-year-old Jeffrey LeBlanc.

A Canberra man who had sex with underage boys after telling them they were training to catch paedophiles, will spend at least the next six years behind bars. Aaron James Holliday pleaded guilty to committing an act of indecency on a child, two counts of possessing child pornography and eight counts of engaging in sexual intercourse with minors. The 24-year-old befriended his three child victims before abusing them. He told two of the boys they were being trained for a program called “pedobait” to help police catch paedophiles.

A 62-year-old Argentine man has been arrested for raping his daughter over a 30-year period and fathering 10 children with her. The woman, who is now 43 years old and cannot be named, accuses her father of raping her since she was 13. She says her 10 children were the product of this sexual abuse, all of which took place in the family home in Santa Fe Province, 600km north of the capital Buenos Aires. The judge hearing the matter described the case as “far worse than what happened in Austria”, a reference to Josef Fritzl who locked his daughter away for 24 years and fathered seven children with her.

CORONA, NY (WPIX) —A 69-year-old school bus driver from Queens is under arrest Friday on charges that he sexually abused three young girls while driving to and from school. Nelson Painchault, of Corona, Queens, was charged with eighteen counts of first-degree sexual abuse and three counts of endangering the welfare of a chil after he sexually abused three girls — ages seven to nine — between September and November 2010, according to Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown. Brown said Painchult touched the girls on multiple occasions fondled their genitals over their clothes. Painchult was in charge of dropping students at two elementary schools in Corona as well as two middle schools in Elmhurst and Maspeth.

GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. — A 34-year-old Greenville County man is accused of sexually molesting a child he is related to.Greenville County deputies said that Alvin Dewayne Arnold, of Piedmont, is charged with criminal sexual conduct and first-degree lewd act on a child.Investigators said that Arnold abused the child between Dec. 2008 and Aug. 2010 while the child was staying in Arnold’s home.

The handsome high school track coach lifted Jennifer’s chin and leaned in to kiss her as they parked in a forest near Colorado Springs. She was 15. She stiffened and withdrew. The married man in his late 30s slid back in the seat of his truck, apologizing, promising it would never happen again. But soon it did, and soon they kissed often, and by the time she was 17 they were regularly having sex. “I lost my virginity at school,” said Jennifer, a woman in her 40s. She didn’t want her name published because she has moved back to her old neighborhood.

On Sunday morning, Nov. 9, 2008, Detective Philip Stanford was by himself in the Denver Police Department’s detective bureau. A 2-year-old had been scalded to death, and everybody was out on that case when the phone rang. It was the desk sergeant, down in the lobby. “I picked up the phone,” Stanford recalled, “and he says, ‘There are some kids down here saying they had been tortured and abused for more than a decade.’ ”

SANTA ANA, CA– A 30-year-old Santa Ana man was convicted Tuesday for assault on a 4-year-old boy. Alberto Guzman, 30, was convicted of one felony count each of assault on a child with force likely to produce great bodily injury resulting in death, corporal injury on a child, and child abuse. Guzman was acquitted of a murder charge. Gabriela Morales, 28, faces murder, assault and child abuse charges for the death of her 4-year-old son. Guzman was convicted for taking part in the child’s abuse.
