Hundreds of young people are trying to sue local authorities in England and Wales for failing to remove them from abusive homes, lawyers are claiming. Victims are claiming that social workers’ negligence meant they were not protected from abuse. Sarah Erwin-Jones, a solicitor who acts for local authorities, said such cases were expensive and time-consuming.

UNION COUNTY, Fla. — A man has been arrested in connection with the abuse of three children, who likely have been beaten for months, police said. Allegations of “extreme cruelty to children,” have led to the arrest of 32-year-old Paul Martin in Lake Butler.

A Kansas City man judged guilty Wednesday of sex crimes against children kept meticulous records of his assaults and wrote handbooks on how to drug and molest girls. James Phillip Edwards, 61, videotaped his assaults on 13 girls over a four-year period and documented his research on drugging them in a document entitled “How to Molest Young Girls,” which investigators found on his computer.

LONG BEACH — Police in Long Beach have released a sketch of a man accused of trying to kidnap a 14-year-old girl outside a school on Monday morning. The man grabbed the girl around 8 a.m. as she was walking to Butler Middle School near Lemon Avenue and 20th Street, according to police.

SALISBURY — A Salisbury couple is facing criminal charges after family members alleged three children were abused and neglected. Melissa Lynne Gambrill, 30, and William O. Sweet, 38, were charged with child abuse, contributing to the condition of a child, false imprisonment, assault and reckless endangerment on Friday following an investigation.

UTAH STATE PRISON — When she was sentenced to serve 20 years in prison in October for the abuse she had inflicted on her six children, the judge told Michele Juan Napolitano what she had done was “evil, depraved and unimaginable.” On Tuesday, the Vernal woman struggled to explain why she hanged her then 5-year-old son over a door by his hands and feet for days, doing damage so severe doctors had to amputate all of the boy’s toes and parts of his feet.

Historic City News received word from Middle District of Florida States Attorney Robert E. O’Neill that a Jacksonville emergency room doctor has entered a guilty plea in a child pornography case. Police arrested 45 year-old Robert Davis Williams after his girlfriend told police she found the material on the computer in their Queens Harbour home.

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A man wanted for sexually abusing a 5-year-old girl in Alabama has been captured in Clarksville. U.S. Marshals teamed up with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s office and Clarksville Police to arrest 56-year-old Ronald Mansell on Wednesday.

Indianapolis, Indiana- Bei Bei Shuai, a 34-year-old Indianapolis woman was charged with murder and feticide Monday after she allegedly dosed herself with rat poisoning in the last week of her pregnancy. The infant she delivered died shortly after birth as a result.

Fort Worth, TX—- A 27-year-old youth volunteer for Trinity Chapel Church in Benbrook has been arrested on charges of possession and distribution of child pornography. Derek McCoy Ripley has been ordered to remain in federal custody after an investigation revealed that username “Leak13” had been sharing folders with numerous images of child porn, which included videos of young boys engaging in sex.

A man convicted in a horrific kidnap-murder case in Idaho has pleaded guilty to the 1997 torture and murder of 10-year-old Anthony Martinez. Joseph Edward Duncan III entered a guilty plea Tuesday as part of a plea deal in exchange for life in prison without parole. Duncan is accused of kidnapping the Beaumont boy as he played with his brother near their home.
