SAN DIEGO — A Mission Valley man abused and molested children that his wife brought to him at their daycare center, a prosecutor said Tuesday, but attorneys for the defendants said there wasn’t enough evidence to back up that claim. Mark Kaczmarczyk, 59, and his 45-year-old wife Anita are charged with one felony count each of child abuse likely to produce great bodily harm and committing a lewd act on a child, and a misdemeanor count of child abuse.

Online Pedophile Ring Busted

An Internet pedophile ring with up to 70,000 members — thought to be the world’s largest —has been uncovered by police, a security official said Wednesday. The European police agency Europol said in a statement that “Operation Rescue” had identified 670 suspects and that 230 abused children in 30 countries had been taken to safety. More children are expected to be found, Europol said.

Casey Royer, an Orange County punk-rock pioneer, faces misdemeanor charges after overdosing on heroin while watching television with his 12-year-old son at home in Newport Beach on Thursday. The boy ran to a neighbor’s house to get help for his 52-year-old dad. While reviving him, authorities discovered what the Orange County district attorney’s office referred to as “filthy” living conditions.

A special education teacher in the Appleton Area School District was charged Tuesday with nine counts of intentionally causing bodily harm and one count of strangulation and suffocation related to her treatment of five students over a two-year period. Each of the charges against Mary C. Berglund, 53, carries a possible fine of up to $10,000 and up to six years in prison, acccording to the criminal complaint filed in Calumet County.

DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C.–A Davidson County woman faces felony child abuse charges after her one-year-old child was treated at a local hospital for burns to her feet. The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office said on Feb. 23, a one-year-old child was taken to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center for treatment. Deputies said the child was treated for burns on her feet.

Paedophiles are increasingly using file hosting sites to distribute images and videos in a bid to bypass blocks on child abuse websites, an Internet watchdog has warned. A report today by the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) has revealed that criminals are uploading the harrowing content to hard-to-detect hosting sites and then passing the web links to the material to others.

The Florida Department of Children & Families said Andrea Fleary has been terminated from her position as a child abuse investigator and her supervisor, Kevin Ramos, has also been fired, The Miami Herald reported.

Pickens County, SC – Ernesto Sanchez, a 31-year-old South Carolina man was jailed after he allegedly burned a 5-year-old boy with a kerosene heater for wetting the bed. Police say the burn was so bad, it will leave the boy’s hand permanently scarred and deformed. According to police, an investigation was launched when a relative reported seeing the boy’s hand severely burned.

YOUNGSVILLE — A 6-year-old Milton Elementary School kindergartener was killed Monday morning after attempting to get on the school bus and being dragged 20 feet along a rural paved road, authorities said. Lederion Miller suffered head injuries and died at a hospital, according to Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office and Lafayette Parish school system news releases.
