Helen Reece, a reader in law at the London School of Economics, called on Theresa May, the Home Secretary, to relax rules which automatically ban sex offenders from caring for children, saying that this could breach their human rights. In an article in the respected Child and Family Law Quarterly, Miss Reece suggested that reoffending rates were not high among sex criminals, adding: “despite growing public concern over paedophilia, the numbers of child sex murders are very low.”

ROEBUCK, SC –A couple from Spartanburg County was arrested on drug charges just hours after their young child was found dead. A magistrate denied the couple bond at a hearing Friday afternoon. Master Deputy Tony Ivey of the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office said that 34-year-old Chuck McCullough and 21-year-old Carrisa McCullough, of Roebuck, were arrested and charged with one count each of trafficking meth on Thursday.

A man suspected of killing a child on a playground was arrested in Greenville on Wednesday night after authorities surrounded an apartment complex near the medical district. Goldsboro murder suspect Derrick Best was holed up in apartments off Paladin Drive, according to Greenville Police Chief William Anderson. Best, who has a long criminal history according to police, was wanted for the shooting death of a 3-year-old girl in February on a Goldsboro playground.

She asked that her name not be used. “My foot got tangled in an extension cord so he whipped me with that. It started to get stuck into my leg and my arms and my back and I still have marks from it. I was mostly screaming the whole time, so I couldn’t really cry. I told him I was bleeding and he was like, ‘You’ll live.’ It lasted for a very long time.”

HEBER CITY, Utah- – The football coach at Wasatch High School was charged Friday in District Court with child abuse, a class “A” misdemeanor. The charge comes after a confrontation with a student during a PE class on March 7th.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — An elementary school student in Washington, D.C. is facing drug charges after police say he brought cocaine to school and shared it with his friends. The incident happened at Thompson Elementary School. Several students swallowed the cocaine during the school day, and five had to be rushed to the hospital.

BROOKLYN, NY — A 17-month old boy is in critical condition after what police believe was a vicious beating at the hands of his foster mother. Police responded to a 911 call early Friday discovered a 17-month-old child who wasn?t breathing. The boy, identified as Kymell Oram, was taken to a hospital.

A Texas church youth pastor was arrested Friday in relation to the 1993 assault of a 15-year-old girl, sheriff’s said. Joe David Nelms, 43, was taken into custody in Lindale, Texas Friday afternoon. According to Orange County Sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino, Nelms arrested the girl for three years at his home, car and in at the Pacific Coast Church in San Clemente.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Rashawn Murphy was sentenced to life in prison Thursday after a jury convicted him of homicide by child abuse in connection with a girl’s death two years ago.Murphy was charged with homicide by child abuse in the January 2009 death of 11-month-old Parris Rogers.
