HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA — A Huntington Beach mother and father are pleading for help in finding whoever severely beat their son. 20-year-old Ted Currie was helping a friend who was deejaying a party at Skyhi Clothing in Santa Ana on September 29. Police say that outside after the party, following some sort of verbal dispute, Ted was jumped.

SUPERIOR, Colo. — Two weeks ago, 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway disappeared. Last week, police said she was dead. Now, they are asking for the public’s help to identify a cross that authorities say could lead to her killer. Police from the girl’s hometown of Westminster, Colorado, on Friday released several images of a wooden cross recovered during the investigation. It is about 1 1/2 inches tall and 1 inch wide, with a hole drilled through it so it can be worn as a pendant.

A sunscreen manufacturer is under fire after some accidents involving their products. The maker of Banana Boat sunscreen is recalling 500,000 bottles of their spray-on sunscreen lotion after reports surfaced that a handful of people were lit ablaze when using the product while near open flames. According to ABC News, Banana Boat’s company spokesman confirmed five reports of users suffering burns in the last year.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Los Angeles police are turning to social media for help identifying dozens of women seen in photos found at the home of the alleged Grim Sleeper” serial killer. Forty-two photographs found at the home of suspect Lonnie Franklin Jr. were be posted on Facebook and Twitter on Thursday. The photos, taken between 1976 and 2010, were among about 1,000 photos seized from Franklin’s home when he was arrested in July 2010.

LOS ANGELES — A prominent restaurateur is charged with attempted murder after allegedly poisoning his former girlfriend to cause her to miscarry their child. Joshua Woodward, 40, an investor in Los Angeles and Miami restaurants including the old Table 8, has pleaded not guilty to four counts of attempted murder in the 2009 case. Prosecutors say that Woodward, who is from a prominent Chicago family that owns Churchill Downs, begged his girlfriend to voluntarily terminate her pregnancy.

PORTLAND, OR — More than 20,000 confidential Boy Scout documents were released Thursday identifying more than 1,000 leaders and volunteers banned from the group after being accused of sexual or inappropriate conduct with boys. The public release of the Scouts’ 1,247 “ineligible volunteer files” from 1965 to 1985 do not contain the identities of the boy victims and witnesses. The national files are being distributed with the approval of the Oregon Supreme Court by a law firm that won an $18.5 million judgment in 2010 against the Boy Scouts in a case where a Scoutmaster sexually abused a boy.

A young victim on his death bed finally revealed the identity of an attacker who burned him alive – 13 years later. Robbie Middleton suffered burns to 99% of his body in a 1998 attack, but only revealed who was responsible shortly before he succumbed to cancer in 2011. Robbie was celebrating his 8th birthday when he was assaulted, tied to a tree and set alight. No one was ever charged for the crime, although police had suspected 13-year-old Splendora, Tx., neighbor Don Collins.

A Virginia substitute teacher is under investigation after a former student tweeted nude pictures of her and bragged of having sex with her. Anna Michelle Walters, a substitute at Cosby High School in Midlothian, Virginia, is accused of having sex with Justin Foster, 18, a former student at the high school and now a freshman at West Virginia University.

OTTAWA (Oct 17, 2012): Canadian police have arrested 21 alleged online child predators and rescued a sexually abused boy, officials said Wednesday. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police partnered with half a dozen police forces in Canada’s western prairies to identify suspects who possessed and distributed child abuse images across peer-to-peer file sharing networks. “With their activities, obviously they are using common file-sharing networks and common technology and common programs to chat and look for kids who possibly networked with other offenders but none of the individuals (arrested) were directly related (to each other),” a police spokesman told a nationally televised news conference.

State police say a man is charged with child neglect and the murder of a two-year-old boy. Officers tell 13News that state police have arrested Nicholas Turkale, of Amherstdale, W.Va., in connection with these charges. State police say they responded to a home Tuesday where Turkale said the boy had fallen off the bathroom sink and hit his head. The boy was then rushed to Charleston Area Medical Center.

A pedophile who terrorized his victims with Nazi horror stories and snarling dogs before abusing them is beginning a third jail term. Colin Cooper, 60, abused 17 victims during a 40-year terror campaign against children as young as five. He would read youngsters Adolf Hitler themed horror stories to scare them into submitting to his sexual demands and then used his two snarling German Shepherd dogs to stop them fleeing his Manchester house. During his reign of terror dating back to the 1970s, Cooper became ‘utterly obsessed’ with abusing children, ordering some victims to eat raw flesh from a pig’s head he kept at his house.
