A California woman who reported her two adoptive children missing found herself behind bars when authorities say it was revealed that the kids had run away after enduring months of abuse. Los Angeles County prosecutors say 50-year-old Ingrid Brewer, of Palmdale, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to eight felony charges, including torture and cruelty to a child. Police responded to Brewer’s January 15 call saying that the eight-year-old boy and seven-year-old girl were missing.

Toddler Killed, Dismembered

A toddler’s remains were found in an oven. Andrey Gadzhiev, 34, admitted to killing and dismembering his helpless one-and-a-half-year-old niece and roasting her remains in a hot oven. According to Daily Mail, Andrey Gadzhiev’s sister Elena Titova, 29, had left him caring for the toddler for fifteen minutes while she visited a neighbor. When she returned there was no sign of the child and her intoxicated brother could not explain what had happened to her.

Erin’s Law Effective Immediately At Illinois Public Schools

Gov. Pat Quinn on Thursday signed a new law extending sexual abuse education in Illinois schools. “Erin’s Law” is named after Schaumburg native and activist Erin Merryn. Sexually abused as a child, Merryn said she’s convinced she would have spoken out much earlier if she had been taught at a young age about the threat. Instead, she endured abuse at the hands of a neighbor and older cousin for years before seeking help.

Two Young Children Found Murdered

The bodies of two girls were found dumped on a street. Two girls, aged 6 and 12, were found on a residential street in the capital, Guatemala City, apparently strangled and still in their pajamas. According to Daily Mail, 707 women were killed in Guatemala in 2012, a significant increase from 431 in 2011, according to the human rights group Mutual Support, which tracks violence in that nation.

Students Shot At Texas College

HOUSTON — A shooting on a Texas community college campus wounded three people Tuesday and sent students fleeing for safety as officials placed the campus on lockdown, officials said. Harris County Sheriff’s Maj. Armando Tello said authorities had detained a person of interest. Authorities also thought there could be a second shooter, according to a law enforcement official in Washington who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the ongoing case.

4-YO Boy Viciously Murdered

A boy of four is believed to have been murdered in his bed as he slept near his twin brother. The killer is thought to have struck in the early hours of Sunday morning. Neighbors heard screams around 3.30am and saw the boys’ mum’s 22-year-old partner carrying a youngster, crying: “Somebody please help.” Armed police later arrested a 32-year-old man in a nearby railway tunnel.

KINGSLAND, GA — The City of Kingsland Police Department has arrested a man wanted overseas suspected of murdering a child. Police say they answered a call about an intoxicated person at the Flash Food/Krystals restaurant located at 1341 Georgia Hwy 40 in Kingsland. Upon arrival, officers found 31-year-old Ricardo Chaves Dos Santos of Charleston intoxicated and creating a commotion inside the store.

Child Murderer Wants Judge to Reverse Her Conviction

LAFAYETTE, IN – An Indiana woman serving a life sentence in the beating death of her 4-year-old stepdaughter wants a judge to reverse her conviction in the 2005 killing. State deputy public defender Joanna Green asked a Tippecanoe County judge Thursday to reverse Michelle D. Gauvin’s convictions on the grounds that she received poor representation from court-appointed trial attorneys.

Parents Arrested for Murder of 3-MO Infant

The Sheriff’s Office said that deputies arrived at the home of Theresa Corrales, 37, and Luis Cortez, 38, on Saturday morning to find an infant unable to breathe. The baby, identified as 3-month-old Adrian Cortez, was transported to mercy hospital where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy is scheduled for next week to figure out what caused the 3-month-old baby boy to die Saturday morning.

An Apollo Beach man is charged with child abuse. Hillsborough County deputies say 26-year-old Joshua Johnson shook a 4-month-old baby, causing brain injuries. Deputies say Johnson admitted to forcefully picking up the baby and putting her down, bouncing her head against things and not supporting her head.

GULFPORT — A Gulfport woman has been charged with felony child abuse after police say she struck her 9-year-old son in the head with a bat. Kizzie Margaret Williams, 31, of Campbell Circle in Gulfport, is in the Harrison County jail on a $50,000 bond pending a hearing by Judge Diane Ladner.
