HUNGRY parents in North Korea have been caught eating their CHILDREN to avoid starvation, according to reports. One father is said to have been executed by firing squad for killing his two kids for food. And it has sparked fears there could be further cases of cannibalism in the country.

Another school shooting in the news: A 14-year-old boy got shot at an Atlanta middle school this afternoon, reports WSB-TV and 11Alive. The victim was hit in the back of the neck but was alert upon arrival at the hospital, say school officials.

MIDLAND CITY, Ala. — Police, SWAT teams and negotiators clustered at a rural property where a man was believed to be holed up in an underground shelter Wednesday after fatally shooting the driver of a school bus and fleeing with a 6-year-old child passenger, authorities said. The standoff went through the night after the man, whose name has not been released by police, boarded the stopped school bus in the town of Midland City on Tuesday afternoon. Dale County Sheriff Wally Olsen told WBMA-TV () the man shot the driver when he refused to let the child off the bus and the driver later died.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A New Mexico woman and her boyfriend locked up an 8-year-old girl with developmental disabilities in a wooden cage, then left her alone while they headed out to watch a movie, police said Tuesday. Cindy Patriarchias and Edmond Gonzales took her three children to an elementary school Friday to watch the movie, a police report said. Patriarchias’ estranged husband called police when he arrived at the school and learned that the 8-year-old girl was unattended at the mobile home.

Dr. Nancy Free, the medical director at Child’s Voice, and Colleen Brazil, a forensic Interviewer, work hand-and-hand with victims of child abuse. They say child abuse cases are rising. “Every year our volumes increase by about 10 percent a year,” Free said. “Some of that might be related to increase numbers in children being abused, but some of that is because of better reporting, better recognition.”

A mother has been arrested after she was allegedly filmed beating up a 12-year-old girl who had arranged to fight her daughter after school. Amber Lee Gutierrez, 33, surrendered to police after cell phone footage emerged showing her viciously attacking the young girl in a San Pedro, California alleyway on January 14. The video, first aired by local station KTLA, allegedly shows Gutierrez dragging the young girl along the ground before punching her across the back in an attack that left the child with a broken arm.

A London secondary school repeatedly ignored warnings that a music teacher was sexually abusing young female pupils, a court heard today. Convicted pedophile Michael Crombie, 75, was accused by a series of girls and their parents whilst working at Wanstead High School, yet head teachers refused to take action. Crombie was was jailed for five years in 2010 after being convicted of charges relating to the systematic abuse of 29 young girls whilst working as a music teacher in East London.

A 23-year-old man stands accused of beating to death his girlfriend’s 9-month-old baby girl. The infant, identified as Ariel Eluziario, was first taken to a hospital in New Bedford, Massachusetts at 6pm Thursday and then flown via helicopter to a children’s hospital in Providence, Rhode Island where she was pronounced dead around 10pm. Though the girl’s mother has not been identified, Mail Online was able to obtain photos of the tragically slain little girl through the accused killer’s public Facebook profile.
