Police Battle Rise in Child Porn Cases

New statistics show that child pornography is increasing faster than any other crime in the state of Virginia. Since 2003, the number of child pornography cases has risen by 218 percent and Charlottesville and Albemarle County are doing their part to reverse this disturbing trend. “Would you let your 4-year-old, 7-year-old, 8-year-old walk through a park with predators with no adult supervision? That’s exactly what’s going on on the internet right now,” stated Albemarle County Sheriff Chip Harding.

Male vs Female Abuse Stats

Do you believe that women are “more likely” than men to abuse children? That’s incorrect. According to the National Clearinghouse on Child Abuse and Neglect there are more incidents of abuse of children (including both physical abuse and neglect) perpetrated by women than by men. But that does not tell you the “likelihood” that you are looking for, which is the percent of women caregivers who commit child abuse versus the percent of men caregivers who commit child abuse. More women than men care for children, and more children are cared for by women than are cared for by men. So if the “statistic” you are looking for is not raw numbers of incidents (which merely would be the “likelihood” that any given incident of abuse has been perpetrated by a man or a woman), and if you came to this page because what you really want to know is whether women or men are more likely to be dangerous when they are caring for children, whether it is women or men who are “more likely” to abuse children, then you need to do some math. The raw numbers of incidents by themselves don’t tell you this.

Organized child sex abuse ‘growing problem’ in Wales

Children trafficked in Wales are being moved around the country and across the UK, says children’s charity Barnardo’s. They are moved along the M4 corridor in south Wales and the A55 in north Wales to places including London, Bristol, Birmingham and Liverpool, it says. Meanwhile, an AM says nearly 30 children in Wales’ social services system have been identified as victims of organised child sexual abuse.

Child Exploitation on Facebook

Have you seen this? CHILD EXPLOITATION ON FACEBOOK…Short documentary about pedophile users on Facebook exploiting children. Contains disturbing screenshots, but no illegal images. The very words exploit means to use unfairly for one’s own advantage. Sexual abuse can take the form of child exploitation for example, by photographing the child in a compromising situation, with the intent to either use the photos for their own sexual stimulation or to sell the photos as pornography. It can also mean kidnapping and selling children into prostitution, or even just forcing someone younger and weaker to do your will.It has been estimated that 25% of the exploiters of children are other children!

This is disgusting and something needs to be done about this immediately.

Child Sex Abuse By Women

The NSPCC has ‘revealed’ that hundreds of children contact the ChildLine helpline every year to report that they have been sexually abused by women. It made the announcement after it was announced that an online pedophile ring involved four women, although it was headed up by a man (not an excuse though, is it?). The police said that it was “unusual” for women to be involved in sexual abuse – adding that “we expect to see men involved in child abuse” – and while it is true that the vast majority of abuse is carried out by men this case presents a much-needed opportunity to shine a light on the extremely taboo subject of abuse by women.

OK Lied About Abuse Stats?

Children’s Rights group skeptical of improved Oklahoma child welfare statistics

Attorneys assisting a national children’s rights organization say they are investigating whether officials with the state Department of Human Services are endangering Oklahoma children by cutting back on child abuse investigations to make the state’s child welfare statistics look better. “We’re concerned that instead of fixing the underlying problems in the system, DHS may be manipulating numbers and dangerously restricting the number of children coming into state custody,” said Tulsa attorney Paul DeMuro. DeMuro is one of the Oklahoma lawyers who have joined New York-based Children’s Rights in suing DHS officials in a class-action federal court lawsuit over the treatment of children in state custody.

Child abuse on the rise in Sullivan County

Sullivan County, Tenn. — The people who investigate child abuse claims in Sullivan County say the number of cases rose dramatically last year. The number of physical and sexual child abuse cases referred to the Sullivan County District Attorney’s office in 2010 was 929, according to a report compiled by the DA’s office. In 2009, that number was 715. “There is a problem and it’s probably greater than the average citizen understands,” said Assistant DA Barry Staubus. Staubus works with Children’s Advocacy Center Forensic Interviewer Amy Whitt-Bachman when prosecuting child abuse cases.

Survivors: It is estimated that there are 60 million survivors of childhood sexual abuse in America today (Forward, 1993) Long term effects of child abuse include fear, anxiety, depression, anger, hostility, inappropriate sexual behavior, poor self esteem, tendency toward substance abuse and difficulty with close relationships (Browne & Finkelhor, 1986).

Clinical findings of adult victims of sexual abuse include problems in interpersonal relationships associated with an underlying mistrust. Generally, adult victims of incest have a severely strained relationship with their parents that is marked by feelings of mistrust, fear, ambivalence, hatred, and betrayal. These feelings may extend to all family members (Tsai and Wagner, 1978).

South Florida has seen a rise in child-abuse cases and officials are calling for more awareness after a year in which the state’s social service agency has investigated some gruesome ones. In Broward County, cases rose to 15,748 in 2010, compared with 14,876 the year before, according to the state Department of Children & Families. In Palm Beach County, cases rose to 12,183 — up from 11,947 the previous year. “You’ll see a lot of domestic violence,” DCF spokesman Mark Riordan said. “That’s where the cycle is perpetuated. It’s a learned response.”

The year 2010 saw a sharp increase in child abduction cases throughout the country as Karachi alone reported 2,582 cases of missing children in the year.  A statement issued by the Child Rights Legal Centre (CRLC) says that the cases of abduction and murder of children have been reported from all parts of the country. The CRLC has been monitoring child rights violations as reported in the newspapers for the year 2010. The statement says that besides the cases of corporal punishments, child sexual abuse, murders and rape and sodomy, child abductions stood out as one of the new trends in child rights violations in Pakistan. It mentions that Pakistan is among the top five most dangerous countries in the world for kidnap and ransom with incidents in the mid to high hundred each year according to the estimate from Global Security Firm Red 24.

Every 6 hours a child dies in the United States due to abuse or neglect

Child abuse is an American epidemic. In 2005, more than 3.5 million children were reported as victims of child abuse or neglect. The staggering truth is that before today is over, four children will DIE because their little bodies cannot bear any more abuse.

Child abuse kills more children in America than accidental falls, choking on food, suffocation or fires in the home. It is sad to reflect on how many innocent and vulnerable children are living in homes where abuse is a routine part of life. The statistics tell the heartbreaking tale…

Stats prompt investigation of caseload

A disturbing increase in child abuse cases across the city this past year has prompted police to investigate what’s behind the spike. Cases of severe injury — including infants with broken bones — are climbing, police say. In 2010, 24 children suffered physical assault resulting in serious injury or broken bones. “We’re researching it right now trying to figure out why,” said Calgary’s police Chief Rick Han-son. The Calgary Police Services child abuse unit investigated nearly 250 files this year. There were 180 cases of female sexual abuse, 43 males sexually abused and 24 cases of physical abuse.
