Purdue shooting suspect surrenders after allegedly killing fellow student

(CNN) — A gunman shot and killed another man Tuesday inside Purdue University’s electrical engineering building, spurring worried students to scramble into the bitter cold outside for safety. The Indiana school’s police chief said that the suspect appeared to have had just one target in mind. He left the building right after the shooting, and a city police officer arrested him. “This appears to be an isolated and intentional act,” Purdue Police Chief John Cox said. “…The victim appeared to have been targeted by the suspect, and it was no more and no less than that.” READ MORE HERE

Police: Mother shook boy, hit his head on crib

Jacksonville, FL — A 23-year-old woman is charged with murder in the death of her nearly 3-month-old son in September. Jacksonville police said Stephanie Schoonover shook the baby on Sept. 6 and hit his head on a crib. The boy died two days later. Rescuers called to the home on Sago Avenue in Oceanway found Logan Hancock unresponsive. The Medical Examiner recently ruled the death a homicide by blunt force trauma. Girl, 14, ‘stabbed little sister 39 times because she didn’t appreciate everything she had done for her’

A 14-year-old girl has been charged as a juvenile with first-degree murder after allegedly stabbing her little sister in their Chicago home on Tuesday morning.  The 11-year-old victim, who not been named, had more than 30 stab wounds across her neck, chest and arms, and three slashes to her face. The teenage suspect initially claimed a stranger had broken in, but she allegedly confessed after police revealed they had found a strand of the killer’s hair in the victim’s hand. A high-ranking official at Pacific University in Oregon has been indicted on sex abuse crimes involving two of his young relatives. Sgt. Vance Stimler, of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, said 48-year-old Michael David Mallery was booked into jail Tuesday on seven counts of first-degree sex abuse. Mallery is accused of sexually abusing two relatives under the age of 18 in 2010 and 2013. The 48-year-old suspect is the Forest Grove school’s vice president for finance and administration. An administrator at Alhambra High School has resigned after a former student posted a video on YouTube that showed the young woman confronting the instructor she said abused her for years.  Jamie Carrillo recorded video of an emotional phone conversation that showed her calling her alleged female abuser and demanding answers. Carrillo, 28, spoke exclusively to KTLA after she posted the video online Friday. She planned to hold a news conference at 2:30 p.m. Monday. On the call, Carrillo can be heard talking about the basketball coach she knew as Ms. Cardosa, from Chemawa Middle School in Riverside. Jamie said the former coach, who was identified in the video’s description on YouTube as Andrea Cardosa, began sexually molesting her when she was just 12 years old. Cape Town – Burnt and bruised, a 9-year-old child left to die after she was raped said her assailant laughed as he set her alight. On Sunday afternoon, her family found her, still alive, huddled on top of a pile rocks, in the bush beside the R300. She had been on her way to her father’s house when she disappeared at about 8pm on Saturday. “She was moving, still able to talk. She could tell us that she recognized the face of the man who raped her and that he laughed when he lit her, saying, ‘You won’t be able to tell anyone it was me,’” the child’s aunt said. Oklahoma pastor could be executed in Philippines after locals claim he abused kids through his orphanage program

A well-known Oklahoma pastor has been jailed in the Philippines after being accused with child molestation and trying to cover up a sex abuse problem among orphanages he runs in the country. Almost 20,000 people have joined a Facebook page pleading for the release of Pastor Tom Randall. Prosecutors have yet to file charges, but also jailed two of his colleagues in the country. Two Florida teacher’s aides arrested for ‘standing idly by as boy with a heart condition is ruthlessly beaten’ in special education class

Two Florida teacher’s aides were hauled to jail Friday after witnessing what cell phone video reveals was the brutal beating of a boy in a special education classroom. Authorities say Mona Sagar, 59, and Kristie Gilmore, 38, stood idly by January 9 at Discovery Intermediate School and are now charged with child neglect for reportedly not even picking up the cell phones or radios they had handy to call for help. Also arrested were three students–two boys and a girl–from the Poinciana classroom who are charged with aggravated assault and disrupting a school function. She is taking her legal battle to Supreme Court

A woman whose childhood rapes by her uncle were captured on camera and widely traded on the internet wants the Supreme Court to make it easier for victims of child pornography to collect money from people who view the brutal images on their computers. The case being argued at the Supreme Court on Wednesday involves a Texas man who pleaded guilty to having images of children engaged in sex acts on his computer. Doyle Randall Paroline, 48, of Brownsboro, Texas, is appealing an order holding him responsible for the full amount of losses, nearly $3.4 million, suffered by the woman known as Amy. We developed this product so that women and girls could have more power to control the outcome of a sexual assault. We wanted to offer some peace of mind in situations that cause feelings of apprehension, such as going out on a blind date, taking an evening run, “clubbing”, traveling in unfamiliar countries, and any other activity that might make one anxious about the possibility of an assault.

We believe that the tools of self-defense currently available are not effective in many common settings of sexual assault. Training in martial arts or products such as pepper spray, tear gas, stun guns, etc. can only help if the potential victim is extremely alert and bold when an attack occurs. Worse still, products of self-defense can be taken from the victim and used against her.

We read studies reviewing the statistics of resisting assault, whether by forceful or non-forceful means. We learned that resistance increases the chance of avoiding a completed rape without making the victim more likely to be physically injured. We concluded that an item of clothing that creates an effective barrier layer can allow women and girls to passively resist an attacker, in addition to any other form of resistance they may be able to carry out at the time of an assault.

Our goal is to offer a wide range of wearable items, which will include assorted types and styles of underwear, running shorts, traveling shorts, etc., suitable for different situations and the styles of individual users. The challenge was to design products that can be worn comfortably while still being able to frustrate an assault effectively. The garments must be very difficult for someone else to remove by either force or stealth (in situations where the victim cannot resist because she has had too much to drink, was drugged, or is asleep). They needed to be resistant to pulling, tearing and cutting while being comfortable to wear during normal activities and, as in the case of underwear, fit smoothly under form-fitting outer clothing…and we think we’ve developed that!

An Oklahoma couple have been arrested and charged with child neglect after their newborn twin boys landed in the hospital with horrific injuries. According to police in Tulsa, Clorinda ‘Chloe’ Archuleta, 24, waited several days before seeking medical attention for the injured infants, and then she only took one of the boys to the hospital. A notorious fugitive who’s been evading authorities since 1998, when he faked his own death just before his trial on child sex-abuse charges, has been captured in Montana. Daniel Clement Chafe, 55, was taken into custody Wednesday in Bozeman where he had been living under a different name, Lieutenant Gregg Hastings said. Chafe had been living in a city near Bozeman where he owned a computer business and used the alias Gwydyn Stryder Styarfyr.
