McAllen, TX – EMT’s responded to Hector Castro’s apartment Saturday evening after receiving a call about a child who had choked on a screw. There was little anyone could do for his toddler stepdaughter – she was dead when emergency personnel arrived. The 2-year-old did have a screw in her throat, but an initial examination of her body revealed the item had absolutely nothing to do with her death – she had been beaten and suffocated.

A 42-year-old Tega Cay woman has been charged with unlawful conduct toward a child after her stepdaughter accused her of beating her, according to a Tega Cay Police report.

The victim, a 14-year-old girl, told police her stepmother beat her with a belt on the arms, face and neck, according to the report. The girl called police after the alleged incident on June 22. The Fort Mill Times is not reporting the woman’s name to protect the victim’s identity.

Denver father jailed after his 14-mth old son died

The father of a 14-month-old baby in Denver has been jailed as a child-abuse suspect after his son died Friday at Lutheran Medical Center.

Police were called about 1 p.m. after an ambulance arrived at the hospital. The father reported that his son had fallen out of his crib, but by the time the ambulance arrived at the emergency room, the baby’s heart had stopped beating, a hospital spokeswoman said.

A local attorney is facing charges of child abuse and domestic battery following an altercation that took place outside his home Saturday evening.
Law enforcement officials were called to the Silver Springs home of James and Dawn Tarquin, where an eyewitness said an argument between the couple turned violent.

According to the eyewitness, James Tarquin slapped his wife, threw her onto the driveway, and held her down so she could not get up. The 24-year-old eyewitness told deputies he was forced to pull Tarquin off his wife, and restrain him by punching him twice until he left his residence in his vehicle.

A man who has a history of battery arrests has been charged with the murder of a 17-month-old South Side baby boy who died of multiple blunt force trauma early Saturday in the South Shore neighborhood.

Houston nurse Abigail Young went on trial today on charges she failed to prevent the death of her 4-year-old daughter whose body was battered with 80 bruises, had a severed pancreas and a fractured skull.

There were also indications that the girl had been sexually abused.

Young, 34, faces up to life in prison if convicted on the one count of injury to a child by omission. Jury selection began today in Young’s unusual case.

A Cowlitz County judge ruled Thursday that a former Longview man convicted of raping a 13-year-old girl can have contact with his daughter after the state Court of Appeals demanded clarification on the matter earlier this year.

The Washington State Court of Appeals said in January that the Cowlitz County Prosecutor’s office had not established whether Chad Anthony Lehman, who pleaded guilty to second-degree rape of a child in 2003, poses a danger to his daughter, who now is around 11 years old.
