The Canadian Government has encouraged the effort to develop a special child-abuse investigation team in the capital. An amount worth $5 million has been promised by Justice Minister Rob Nicholson to be applied over five years to make expansion and development of child advocacy centres across the nation. Alva, FL – Police say 31-year-old Candice Miller is facing numerous charges after she was found to be in possession of nearly 1,000 pornographic images depicting herself and two children in various sex acts. Among those photos, Miller is seen performing oral sex on a 14-year-old boy – another shows that same teen boy sitting on a bed with his 9-year-old sister – both naked. Authorities believe Miller was emailing the photos to an ex-boyfriend she had previously met on an internet dating site.

Malaysia — A newborn baby died after being snatched by a monkey from her family’s living room in central Malaysia, an official said Thursday. The body of the four-day-old girl was found outside the family’s home in Negri Sembilan state Wednesday, said a Wildlife Department official who spoke on condition of anonymity, citing protocol. The monkey took the infant to the roof of the single-story house and then dropped her after possibly mistaking her for food, the official said. The girl, who had been left alone in the room, had bite marks on her neck and face.

MENTOR, Ohio (AP) —Sladjana Vidovic’s body lay in an open casket, dressed in the sparkly pink dress she had planned to wear to the prom. Days earlier, she had tied one end of a rope around her neck and the other around a bed post before jumping out her bedroom window. The 16-year-old’s last words, scribbled in English and her native Croatian, told of her daily torment at Mentor High School, where students mocked her accent, taunted her with insults like “Slutty Jana” and threw food at her.

It was the fourth time in little more than two years that a bullied high school student in this small Cleveland suburb on Lake Erie died by his or her own hand — three suicides, one overdose of antidepressants. One was bullied for being gay, another for having a learning disability, another for being a boy who happened to like wearing pink.

CARLSBAD, Calif. (KTLA) — Authorities have identified the accused gunman in a Carlsbad school shooting as 41-year-old Brendan L. O’Rourke. The shooting took place at Kelly Elementary School in Carlsbad. Two girls ages 6 and 7, were hit in the arm, but their wounds are not considered serious. Rourke is believed to be a transient. He was booked on six counted of attempted murder and numerous weapons violations.

PLATTSMOUTH, Neb. — A Nebraska City school bus driver is facing misdemeanor child abuse charges. In August, Thomas Mead, 71, dropped off Seth Foreman, 6, at the U.S. Post Office in Union, more than 15 miles from his home, according to investigators. Foreman had gotten on the wrong bus.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Police released the identities of the woman and her twin teens found dead inside their home on Monday. Renee Ogden, 38, and her two children, Chase and Olivia, both 13, were found murdered inside their home by Tommy Ogden when he returned home from work on Monday. Police have released a specific cause of death but did state that there was “obvious trauma to the bodies.”

Springfield, MO – Police and paramedics were called to Tatianna Light’s home Tuesday afternoon after receiving a 911 call in which she reported her 2-month-old son, Kaiden, was not breathing. Tatianna told officers she had placed the baby on his back on her bed and went to do laundry. When she returned about ten minutes later, Kaiden had rolled onto his stomach and had blood in his nose, so she called 911. EMT’s were unable to resuscitate the baby and he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (KTLA) — A paroled burglar was convicted Tuesday of murdering a woman and her two daughters during a night of terror in which the mother was strangled and the girls tied to their beds, one doused in gasoline, before the house was set on fire. Steven Hayes, 47, could be sentenced to death.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Co. — Police are trying to determine if a Craigslist post threatening a baby’s life is real or a hoax. The posting shows a graphic photo of a newborn accompanied by a threat to leave the baby to die in a trash can. “Desperate baby will die if someone doesn’t pick it up,” the headline read.
