The information was released Tuesday and examines county-level trends in a child’s well-being. It scopes into child poverty rates, child health, child abuse and neglect and education statistics. Data are from 2009 and are compared with data from as early as 1998.

A man accused of attempting to kill his adopted 10-year-old son has been charged with murdering the boy’s twin sister. Nubia Doctor was taken from the bathroom where she had been tied up and beaten to death by Jorge Barahona in his bedroom, according to Miami-Dade police today.

In one extreme example, a woman was arrested after stabbing the daughter of her boyfriend who was allowing her to stay temporarily in his apartment. On Sunday morning, the 12-year-old girl was eating breakfast while watching television. Tammy Kelly, formerly from Kokomo, allegedly approached the girl and stabbed her several times in the upper torso with a steak knife.

A high school coach is being investigated for allegedly beating a student, the Los Angeles Unified School district said. Jorge Chavez, 33, a coach and teacher at Bernstein High School in Hollywood, was arrested on March 1 and charged with felony assault. He is accused of punching, slamming and kicking the student, Robert Alaniz of the LAUSD confirms.

18 Males Arrested For Raping 11-YO

At least 18 men and boys have been charged in connection with the gang rape of an 11-year-old girl. The suspects, aged between 14 and 27, are accused of taking part in the rape last Thanksgiving in an abandoned mobile home in Cleveland, Texas. Investigators confiscated mobile phones from some of the suspects, after it emerged videos of the alleged incident were circulated around schools, court documents showed.

ATLANTA—Special Agent in Charge (SAC) Brian D. Lamkin announces, on behalf of the FBI’s Safe Child Task Force, the following arrest at Dalton, Georgia. John Neff, age 47, of Denver, North Carolina, was arrested Monday afternoon, February 21, 2011, by FBI agents and task force officers of the FBI-led Safe Child Task force after coming to the attention of undercover agents/officers on the Internet. Neff, a commercial truck driver, is facing state charges of criminal attempted child molestation stemming criminal attempted aggravated child molestation from his efforts to have sex with a minor child.

Authorities say they’re investigating an apparent murder-suicide in which a 22-year-old man is believed to have shot two children before turning the gun on himself. All three were found in a residence early Sunday. First District officers responded to a call of a shooting in the 2100 block of Pauger Street, and found a 9-year-old boy and 10-year-old girl lying on a sofa suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

Ashley Nicole Hepburn of Cross Hill and Richard Brandon Lewis of Clinton were sentenced in General Sessions Court in a Laurens courtroom on Thursday by Eighth Circuit Judge, the Honorable Frank R. Addy, Jr. of Greenwood. Both defendants were charged with homicide by child abuse and aiding and abetting homicide by child abuse. Hepburn was sentenced to 45 years for homicide by child abuse and Lewis was sentenced to ten years for aiding and abetting homicide by child abuse.

School Abuse Interrogation Change

Albany schools changed their policy on police interrogation of students in sex-abuse cases because of an appeals court decision in an Oregon case now before the Supreme Court. Schools now make sure that a staff member is in the room with any child being questioned about suspected abuse. Acting on a decision by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, Albany schools alerted principals more than a year ago to change the way sex abuse investigations are handled at schools.

Police Commander Accused Of Abuse

A Chicago Police commander found not guilty last year of misdemeanor telephone harassment is now the focus of an abuse investigation. A spokesman for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services confirmed Saturday the agency is investigating allegations of child abuse involving Harrison District police Cmdr. Penelope Trahanas and her teenage daughter.
