Southfield— Motorists accused of driving drunk with children in the car, like the Southfield woman whose daughter passed a note last month to a bank teller seeking help, have drawn attention to what authorities say is an under-reported problem that puts hundreds of kids at risk every year in Michigan. Child endangerment charges can be levied when an impaired person drives with a child under age 16. But because the young victims are often either unaware or incapable of knowing what’s happening, or reluctant or too fearful to report it, most cases never lead to arrests. Even the state Department of Human Services can’t say how often reported offenses occur across Michigan.

Bikers Against Child Abuse Event Planned

The BACA Victims Benefit tonight at Third and Walnut is the first in a series of fast approaching events geared towards helping those who need it most. The Montgomery County chapter of Bikers Against Child Abuse will hold their annual Victims Benefit tonight at Third and Walnut Bar and Grill, with all proceeds going to victims services in Norristown.

The benefit, which runs from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., will feature DJing by “Big Daddy” of the Mavericks Motorcycle Club, food, drinks, raffles, and much more, all for a $20 donation. The benefit is one of many events coordinated by the Montco BACA members.

The victim’s 5-year-old brother told their mother about the abuse after he saw two neighborhood boys abusing his 2-year-old sister, according to The Commercial Appeal. Both boys admitted to the August 9 crime to avoid a trial.

NEW ALBANY, OH– No stranger to controversy, U.S. retailer Abercrombie & Fitch has come under fire for offering a push-up bikini top to young girls. Its “Ashley” bikini — described as “padded” and a “push-up” — was posted on the Abercrombie Kids website earlier this week. The company declined to comment Saturday, but noted it has since updated the description of its bikini online.

RACINE, Wis — Samuel Curtis Johnson III, a billionaire member of the family that runs the SC Johnson & Son household products company, has been charged with repeated sexual assault of a child, officials said on Friday. The child is now 15, and the alleged assault went on for “several years,” according to Racine County District Attorney Michael Nieskes.

BOYLE HEIGHTS– A man is under arrest Saturday after being accused of luring a 6-year-old girl away from her family and sexually assaulting her, police said. Around 8 p.m. Friday police officers responded to a kidnap in progress at Sheridan Elementary School on the 300 block of Cornwell street. When police arrived they found Edward Gonzalez, 28, being held down by witnesses who saw him leave the scene.

ELYRIA — Kevin Kimbrough, who could have faced the death penalty for the death of 8-month-old Jayden Davidson, pleaded guilty before Lorain County Common Pleas Judge Edward Zaleski. Kimbrough, 27, of Lorain, was sentenced by Zaleski to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 30 years.

NY Soldier Charged With Murder

WATERTOWN, N.Y. — A Fort Drum soldier who was wounded during a 2009 tour in Afghanistan was charged Friday with killing a four-month-old baby he and his wife were trying to adopt. Jeffrey Sliker, 23, was arraigned Friday in Watertown City Court in northern New York on a second-degree murder charge in the death of Laurne Clark, who was also known as Mollie Sliker. The child was found dead at Sliker’s home Wednesday after his wife alerted authorities. An autopsy determined she died of a blunt-force head injury, and Sliker was arrested.
