Flagler, FL- Teresa Martone, a 35-year-old Florida woman was jailed after deputies allegedly discovered wall to wall filth, three children and 32 animals living inside her home. According to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to Martone’s residence after receiving a report that conditions inside the home were unsuitable for children.

Laporte, IN – Jackie Koker, a 44-year-old Indiana man who was charged late last month for having sex with a pit bull and then asking a 5-year-old girl to join him in the adventure, is facing a new charge this week. According to police, Koker and 40-year-old girlfriend, Rebecca Bermudez, were jailed July 22 after they allegedly engaged in sex acts with a pit bull. The couple then reportedly invited a 5-year-old girl to join them in the bestiality.

Marathon, FL- Elizabeth Garcia, a 19-year-old Florida woman was jailed on attempted murder charges Friday after she allegedly tried to beat her 2-month-old child with a chunk of concrete. According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, an investigation was launched after CPS investigators received a video that showed Garcia attempting to use the concrete to beat the child.

Springfield babysitter Jennifer Bernal was convicted Thursday of murdering 18-month-old Anthony Joseph Romanotto in 2008. A jury of eight women and four men deliberated for about four hours before reaching its verdict, which concluded an almost two-week-long trial filled with medical testimony. Circuit Judge Pete Cavanagh set sentencing for Dec. 1.

Child sexual abuse is an epidemic affecting youth from all backgrounds and every neighborhood in our country. National statistics released by the United States Department of Justice indicate that one out of three girls and one out of five boys will be sexually abused by age 18. Elementary age children are the most vulnerable to this type of abuse. In 68 percent of cases, a family member is responsible for committing the crime. Only 10 percent of victims are abused by a stranger.

The number of people convicted of sex offences on children aged under 16 in England and Wales has increased by nearly 60% in six years. A Freedom of Information request to the Ministry of Justice found that in 2005, 1,363 people were convicted while in 2010, it was 2,135. The rise has been attributed to better detection and raised awareness. Child protection groups say the number is relatively small and that it remains a grossly under-reported crime.

PHOENIX – This valley mother was accused of blowing pot smoke into her 10-month old baby’s mouth because she wouldn’t stop crying — but there’s more. The young mom’s roommate grabbed her cell phone and started filming the abuse — and police are sharing that video with FOX 10. Police say 21-year-old Jessica Callaway told them she hit her baby because she was having a bad day and couldn’t find an outfit to wear that night.

A MAN accused of forcing his three young grandsons to hike 30km in 40C heat at the Grand Canyon and denying them food and water has been charged with child abuse. The boys, aged 12, 9 and 8, told investigators that they had been hit, pushed, choked, pinched and squeezed during trips on a popular trail at the canyon’s South Rim last month. ST. LOUIS—A 25-year-old East St. Louis woman suspected of killing her two children was in jail on Thursday after slamming her car into two pedestrians near the Gateway Arch in downtown St. Louis, police said. The woman, who was not immediately identified, was arrested as she sat on the ground near the Arch Wednesday night. She was holding a shotgun shortly before she was taken into custody.

CHATSWORTH, CA– The judge in the Brandon McInerney murder trial has declared a mistrial after jurors said they were hopelessly deadlocked. The vote was 7 to 5 in favor of finding Brandon McInerney guilty of voluntary manslaughter. The jury received the case last Friday once closing arguments in the eight-week trial came to an end.

NEWARK, N.J. — A New Jersey man pleaded guilty Tuesday to murdering five teenagers in 1978 in what was one of the state’s longest-running cold cases. Philander Hampton, of Jersey City, told police three years ago that he and a cousin, Lee Evans of nearby Irvington, lured the teens to an abandoned house in Newark with the promise of odd jobs, then locked them inside and set the house on fire.

We physically abuse our children at staggering rates, we pump them full of antidepressants and other pharmaceutical drugs and we send them off to public schools that more closely resemble prison camps every single day. Meanwhile, the economic decline of the America is hitting children far harder than it is hitting the adult population. More than one out of every five children in America is living in poverty and one out of every four children is on food stamps. One of the ways that a society is judged is by how it treats its most vulnerable members. As you will see below, the way that children are treated in America today is absolutely shameful.
