Rodney Duane Ropp, 43, and Dalana Allene Minor, 34, both of Copan, are being charged with child abuse by injury following the alleged incident. According to a probable cause affidavit, Copan Middle School officials called the Washington County Sheriff’s Office on Sept. 1 to report that a student wanted to speak with a deputy.

CHICAGO—A 3-year-old boy was stabbed to death on the West Side, police said. The mother and father of 3-year-old boy were involved in an apparent domestic squabble, according to family members. The boy’s mother, Margaret Jefferson, was injured and taken to a local hospital.

MANSFIELD, OH — An execution date is set for a Mansfield man who raped and killed his girlfriend’s 6-month-old daughter in 1998. The Ohio Supreme Court on Thursday ordered Steven T. Smith’s death sentence to be carried out May 1, 2013, at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility. “This is one of the most heinous crimes I ever dealt with as a prosecutor,” said Mansfield Municipal Court Judge Jerry Ault, who was first assistant prosecutor for Richland County when he tried the case.

Durand, Ill. —A former Durand High School teacher was sentenced to 30 years in prison for having sexual contact with six students. The incidents occurred in 2009. Jennifer Bland, 25, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to four counts of criminal sexual assault, two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, and one count of child pornography. Bland also solicited a seventh person to appear in a video engaged in a sexual act.

The number of children in military families who have been killed through abuse and neglect has more than doubled since 2003, and has begun to exceed child abuse fatality rates in the civilian world, military records show. David Morrison, 45, of Grangemouth, also admitted being in possession of a library of child abuse images at the High Court in Glasgow on Friday. Morrison admitted that he raped the child after evidence of the sexual abuse was built up by police through combining online chat logs, photographs and expert analysis of veins in Morrison’s hands.

A distraught mother in southeastern Texas is trying to locate her 15-year-old daughter who disappeared under mysterious circumstances more than a month ago. “I can’t even describe how I am feeling. I miss her so much. I just want my baby to come home,” Sandra West told The Huffington Post.
