HARTFORD, CT — Joshua Komisarjevsky was formally sentenced to death Friday for the home invasion attack that left Jennifer Hawke-Petit and her daughters, Hayley and Micahela, dead in their Cheshire home in the summer of 2007. On the day he was sentenced to execution Komisarjevsky insisted that no one was supposed to die during the July 2007 deadly home invasion. “I was a condemned man long before this day,” Komisarjevsky, dressed in an orange prison jumpsuit, said while standing before the judge.

FEDERAL WAY—A 33-year-old Federal Way woman, a certified nursing assistant, has been charged with assault after she allegedly poured cleaning powder in to the mouth of a 4-week-old infant she was babysitting. Charging documents said police were called to an apartment complex on Military Road South on Jan. 10 by a woman who reported her neighbor, Mabinty Williams, “knocked on her door and said there was a baby in her apartment and she didn’t know how it got there.” The neighbor also said Williams called the 4-week-old baby “evil.”

BROOKLYN, NY–Friends, relatives and neighbors were horrified after a mother abandoned her two little girls in the midst of a Canarsie housing project has the neighborhood. Wearing parkas and Ugg boots and each clutching a fistful of diapers, family members say 26-year-old Dalisha Adams left them as an angry message for their father. Bertha Davia, the little girls’ grandmother, spoke to PIX11 at the same corner where the girls were abandoned. “It’s making my heart have pain,” she wailed as she recounted how police came knocking at her door late Sunday night to say 4-year-old Diani and 3 year old Dominae had been ditched by their mother and were taken into protective custody.

SANTA ANA, CA — An Orange County jury failed to reach a verdict and a judge declared a mistrial Monday in the case of a young mother accused of suffocating her newborn daughter and dumping her in a trash bin. Superior Court Judge Thomas Goethals declared the mistrial in the case of Juana Perez Valencia, 21, of Anaheim, who faced a first-degree murder charge stemming from her infant girl’s death.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO – A former high-school teacher has pleaded not guilty to charges that he engaged in what prosecutors describe as “substantial unlawful sex acts” with a 14-year-old girl. Ricardo Aldana, 37, has been charged with seven felony counts of lewd acts on a child, and faces up to seven years in state prison if convicted. His attorney has said those alleged acts “simply didn’t occur.”

An Afghan father, his wife and their son have been jailed for life after a jury found them guilty of killing three teenage sisters and a co-wife in what the judge described as a ‘despicable’ and ‘heinous’ crime. The jury had taken 15 hours to find Mohammad Shafia, 58, his wife Tooba Yahya, 42; and their son Hamed, 21, each guilty of four counts of first-degree murder. The four bodies were found in June 2009 in a car submerged in a canal in Kingston, Ontario, where the family had stopped for the night on their way home from Niagara Falls. Prosecutors said the daughters were killed because they dishonored the family by defying rules on dress, dating, socialising and going online.

An award-winning high school teacher has been accused of having ‘intimate sexual relationships’ with two of her students, kissing a third on the lips and exchanging inappropriate texts and emails with a third. Joanne Léger-Legault, from Ottawa, Canada, was stripped of her teaching permit and fired by the city’s public school board over the allegations. She is a former teacher of A.Y. Jackson Secondary School and Merivale High School. She pleaded no contest and did not dispute any of the facts when they were presented to the Ontario College of Teachers discipline committee.

A soccer coach has been charged with forcing a 13-year-old girl to make pornographic films of herself and posting them online for other paedophiles. Robert Vincent Peace is also alleged to have had more than 2,000 child porn images and videos at his California home. The 45-year-old, who is from the UK, worked as a youth football coach with girls and boys teams in the Orange County area. He was arrested after a member of his own family said they discovered a stash of child porn on his computer and handed it over to police. Investigators said they found 1,500 images and 300 videos on the computer taken from his home in Lake Forest, California.

FALL RIVER – A 24-year-old Fall River man was arrested on Saturday for the alleged abuse of a child. Police began an investigation into the abuse of a three-year-old boy after he was hospitalized with injuries on Friday morning. The child was transferred from St. Anne’s Hospital to Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Rhode Island for treatment.

CANYON COUNTY – Child pornography isn’t new, but between the internet and inexpensive, readily available recording equipment, it’s easier than ever for offenders to produce and distribute. Tracking, apprehending and prosecuting those who view child pornography is a complicated and, at times, overwhelming process. Law enforcement officials aren’t resting on their laurels, however – the Idaho’s Internet Crimes Against Children task force (ICAC) aggressively devises new ways to catch predators in the act.

A 25-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly advertising on Craigslist for ‘fathers willing to share their daughters’ for sex. Brandon J. Bergthold from Will County, Illinois was caught by an undercover cop posing as a father happy to turn over his daughter. When he was arrested outside a motel, Bergthold thanked cops for saving him from his addiction to child porn, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. The arrest followed two months of investigations by Will and Cook County sheriff police, who had been monitoring Craigslist, a classifieds website.

A police officer under investigation for sexual misconduct with a teenage minor was shot and killed while on duty by fellow officers Saturday as they tried to arrest him on California’s central coast, authorities said. The officer was manning a DUI checkpoint when the shooting occurred shortly after 1 a.m. He was declared dead after emergency surgery at Marian Medical Center, Santa Maria police Chief Danny Macagni said in a statement. The officer, a four-year Santa Maria department veteran, had just learned of the internal investigation of an alleged sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl, and it became necessary to arrest him immediately, Macagni said.

A few weeks ago, a disturbing story broke that Morgan Freeman was maintaining a 10-year relationship with his step-granddaughter with whom he had a questionable sexual encounter when she was young. Yes, they are not related through blood, but Freeman is 72 and E’Dena Hines is now 27, which means she would have been 17 when they first… um… got together.
