Following a deal which spared him the death penalty, Harrell, 26, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Somer’s family was in favour of the deal because Harrell agreed not to appeal any of his convictions.

A father suffocated his six-month-old son in the bath and then hanged himself, an inquest heard. Paul McBride, 39, of Lancashire, killed baby Ollie shortly after the break-up of a ‘turbulent relationship’ with the child’s mother, Michaela Swain. The youngster’s dry body was found lying on the bed in the upstairs bedroom of Mr McBride’s home in Preston, Lancashire.

Austin, TX – Gloria Ann Veloz, a 27-year-old Texas woman has been jailed after she allegedly photographed herself molesting two small children before sending the photos to her boyfriend. According to police, an investigation was launched after the Attorney General’s Office received a tip alleging that child pornography photographs had been posted on Veloz’s Facebook page.

Giusseppe Pino LoPorto was indicted on April 13, 1998 by a Baldwin County, Alabama Grand Jury for sexual abuse, sodomy, and rape, and a state warrant was issued for his arrest. The crimes that occurred from approximately 1985 through 1995 involved a juvenile. LoPorto was arrested in Alabama in 1996 and released on bond. He fled in 1998, shortly before his trial was scheduled to begin in Alabama. On April 15, 1998, a federal arrest warrant was issued by the United States District Court, Southern District of Alabama at Mobile, after LoPorto was charged federally with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

A former Connecticut police captain has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for what authorities say was one of the largest and most disturbing child pornography cases they’ve seen. Prosecutors say David Bourque was caught with more than 26,000 images and videos of child pornography on his computers that showed the sexual abuse of young boys, including infants and toddlers. Bourque apologized for his actions in court Friday saying he ‘spiraled out of control’ during the several months he was downloading and sharing the porn. He said he never physically abused any children.

LOUISVILLE, KY– A Louisville woman was arrested yesterday for allegedly punching her 10-year-old son in the face during her anger management class. And it’s not the first time she’s been in the news. Police say it happened on Feb. 4. 30-year-old Misty Lawson was taking the class when she allegedly punched the child several times in his face and body area. A counselor witnessed the incident and reported it to the police and Child Protective Services.

Athens-Clarke police arrested a legless man Tuesday night on charges he raped an 11-year-old relative at his home on Athens’ Eastside. Elbert Roman Tate, 33, was charged with rape, child molestation, aggravated sexual battery and sexual battery, police said. A judge denied bail during Tate’s bond hearing Wednesday in Athens-Clarke County Magistrate Court.

The best thing most people can say about pedophiles–whether they’re found in the Roman Catholic Church or outside it–is that they’re just plain sick. WESTMINSTER — Police and prosecutors are seeking the public’s help identifying potential additional victims of a former high school basketball coach, charged with having an unlawful sexual relationship with a student beginning when she was 14 years old. John Tran Nguyen, 21, of Fountain Valley, is charged with one felony count of unlawful sexual intercourse and one misdemeanor count of domestic violence battery.

LOS ANGELES — Another Los Angeles Unified School District teacher has been accused of sexually molesting children. Paul William Chapel, 50, of Chatsworth was a former third-grade teacher at Telfair Elementary School in Pacoima. He is in custody and charged with molesting four children, including at least one Telfair student.

LA CRESCENTA, CA– A 15-year-old boy intentionally jumped to his death Friday afternoon at Crescenta Valley High School in full view of other students, sheriff’s officials said. The student — identified as Crescenta Valley High sophomore Drew Ferraro — climbed a building on campus and got a running start before jumping off a ledge during the school’s lunch hour, Sheriff’s Lt. John Corina said in a Friday news conference.

A mother who sold her two daughters to a paedophile for $30,000 has been caught after two years on the run. Jeanifer Lee Segrest was arrested at her home after police received a tip following her appearance on the TV show ‘America’s Most Wanted.’ The 38-year-old is alleged to have sold her daughters, then aged five and six, to a known pedophile and allowed them to be repeatedly molested. The molester also took pornographic photos of the girls with the mother’s full knowledge in return for the cash payments.
