ROME (Reuters) – Italian police have broken up a pedophile network spanning at least 28 countries that used social media websites to swap pornographic images and videos of child abuse. Ten people have been arrested in Italy, the United States, France and Portugal, and another 112 are being investigated on suspicion of child pornography, Italy’s computer crime police bureau NIT said in a statement.

SPLENDORA, Texas — The abandoned school bus had no engine and no front wheels. But there were crude curtains in the windows, an air conditioner and even bunk beds. So when a postal worker peered inside, it became clear that two children had been living for more than two months in the dilapidated vehicle at the end of a muddy, one-lane road. Now child welfare agents are trying to unravel the story of the siblings, ages 5 and 11, who apparently began staying in the bus with an aunt after their parents went to prison.

A Georgia mother of five has been arrested on child cruelty charges after police found her home crawling with roaches, dog feces and spoiled food. Andrea Massa Hernandez, 28, remained in jail Monday after one of her children’s fathers reported her apartment’s rancid living conditions to Smyrna police last Wednesday. ‘All about the apartment, wherever you looked, was crawling with roaches,’ the police warrant read, according to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution.

Military School Coach Charged With 22 Counts of Child Molestation

A former coach at a military school is facing a potential 100 years behind bars after being charged with multiple counts of molesting young boys. A grand jury indicted Louis ‘Skip’ ReVille, who taught summer camps at The Citadel military college in Charleston, South Carolina, on 22 counts of sexual abuse. However, prosecutor Scarlett Wilson said the college faces no criminal liability for not reporting a sexual abuse complaint against ReVille from his work at its summer camp.

Riverside, FL – Ethel Anderson, a 29-year-old 5th-grade teacher at Mango Elementary School has been jailed after she allegedly had sex with a 12-year-old boy. According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, an investigation was launched after the mother of a 12-year-old boy told deputies that her son was sexually involved with a teacher who had been tutoring the boy after school.

LOS ANGELES — Are you ready for a little “pink slime” in your kids’ school lunches? Officially called “Lean Beef Trimmings,” the ammonia-treated ground beef is bright pink in color — thus the moniker “pink slime.” It consists of a ground-up beef scraps, cow connective tissues and other beef trimmings. The meat is treated with ammonium hydroxide to kill bacteria, and then blended into traditional meat products, like hamburger patties. Although “pink slime” has been rejected by fast food restaurants like McDonald’s, Taco Bell and Burger King, the USDA is buying 7 million pounds of it for school lunches.

The trial surrounding the death of 2-year-old Lily Wolfenbarger-Furneaux and the murder conviction of 30-year-old Renee King began in November 2010, but the Furneaux family was in court for years before Lily was killed. Lauren Furneaux, Lily’s mother, said she and her family have spent the last three years dealing with the court system because of the murder trial and custody hearings. “This is the first time we’ve actually seen justice,” she said on Feb. 27, the day King was convicted of felony murder, child abuse and sexual assault from the Nov. 20, 2010 death of Lily.

A nanny has been jailed after she was caught on a hidden camera shoving a soiled baby wipe down a baby’s throat. Elvira Talavera Perez was also secretly filmed by a ‘nanny-cam’ dropping a soiled diaper on the 10-month-old boy in her care. The 43-year-old had been hired by a family in Las Cruces, New Mexico, in July 2011 to look after their newborn son.

NEEDLES, CA — San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a woman Sunday and accused her of trying to kill a 3-year-old boy by setting him on fire. Deputies responded about 9 p.m. to a report of a woman throwing a lit match at a toddler near the intersection of K and Spruce Streets in Needles. They arrived and determined that Elizabeth Smoka, 56, of Mohave Valley, Ariz., threw a rag soaked in gasoline on top of a blanket covering 3-year-old boy while he was in his stroller, according to a sheriff’s news release.

ROSEMONT, CA – Homicide detectives are Investigating the death of a girl whose body was discovered at a community park. A woman looking for recyclables made the gruesome discovery Tuesday morning in a dugout area of a baseball field at the park. Sacramento County Sheriff’s department officials have confirmed that the girl, identified as 13-year-old Jessica Funk-Haslam, was the victim of homicide.

Parents Left 3-YO Daughter At Restaurant

A 3-year-old girl was left behind by her parents at a Chuck E. Cheese’s restaurant and they only realized that they had forgotten her when they saw a report about her on the evening news. Restaurant workers only knew that the girl, identified only as Harmony, was in need of help when she went up to a restaurant worker around 8.30pm Monday night saying that she was thirsty. The staff members told police that she had arrived at the Bel Air, Maryland childrens restaurant around 4pm with a large party of about 10 family members.

Couple Charged With Abuse After Twins Found Bound

The parents of twin 1-year-old boys found bound inside their home in Palatka have been charged with child abuse and neglect. One of the boys was admitted to Putnam County Medical Center for observation after the boys were discovered when deputies went to the house on Peniel Church Road looking for another person. Both boys had numerous bruises, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.

Most abusers are members of the victim’s family, either a caretaker or parent or a close relative. This includes physical, emotional, and sexual abuse and child neglect. 90% of confirmed physical abuse and neglect cases involve caretakers of children. Contrary to common belief, males and females perpetrate abuse against their own children at surprisingly similar rates. “Among all abused children, those abused by their birth parents were about equally likely to have been abused by mothers as by fathers (50% and 58%, respectively), but those abused by other parents, parent-substitutes, or other, non-parental perpetrators were much more likely to be abused by males (80 to 90% by males versus 14 to 15% by females).

Father Raped, Killed His 5-MO Infant

COPPERAS COVE – A father from Central Texas has received two life sentences after he sexually assaulted his 5-month old daughter, which led to her death. Joseph Edward Allsop was originally charged with Capital Murder for the crime that took place back in 2005. Five month old Jade Allsop was found dead in a Copperas Cove apartment, and the father was suspected in the death. However, there was not enough evidence to charge him with the crime.
