Farmington, N.H. – Laura Faas, a 51-year-old New Hampshire woman was charged Friday with sexually assaulting an 11-year-old boy over a period of several years. According to Farmington police, Faas sexually assaulted an 11-year-old boy over the span of several years – and on at least one occasion – held the boy down while sexually assaulting him. Investigators say Faas told the boy not to tell anyone about the sexual abuse “or she would go to jail.”

BUFFALO, N.Y. – A little boy and his grandmother are both dead following a chaotic scene in Riverside. Thursday morning, sources close to the investigation believe the child may have died at the hands of his knife-wielding grandmother. Riverside residents are shocked and disturbed that the horrific crime happened right in their neighborhood. Neighbor Ebony White said, “I never think somebody would do that to an innocent little kid, ya know, there’s nothing a little kid can make you do that would make you go that far.”

After setting up a Facebook page for his 6-year-old daughter, Michael Marcinanis reported that the girl was targeted by online child predators. According to WSBTV.com, Marcinanis set up the page so his daughter could keep in touch with her grandparents and other relatives, although she added people she did not know. The initial red flags were raised when his son noticed two vulgar messages sent to his daughter, one of which suggested sexual activity.

DOUGLAS, Massachusetts — The unsolved disappearance and murder of a teenage lifeguard in 2000 may be linked to a convicted killer in Florida. 16-year-old Molly Bish disappeared while working as a lifeguard at Comins Pond in the small community of Warren in June 2000. Her remains were found three years later in the neighboring town of Palmer.

ORANGE PARK, FLA — Police are searching for a man who witnesses say went door-to-door at a motel offering to exchange a baby for food. Orange Park police were trying to identify the man who was at the Rodeway Inn Motel at about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Witnesses say the man was caring the child carelessly.

GARDEN GROVE — A woman has been arrested after allegedly trying to steal a newborn baby from a Garden Grove hospital. Police say the suspect, posing as an employee at the Garden Grove Medical Center, was spotted earlier in the day on the third floor of the hospital, which is Labor and Delivery. She was confronted by another employee and left the floor. It’s believed the suspect, described as a Hispanic woman, then went to the third floor where the mothers and their new babies are located.

George Ross Wilcox, 54, was arrested on July 30 in British Columbia for his 2008 conviction of 4 counts of sexual conduct with a minor in Pima County in Arizona. According to The Province, Delta police where made aware in 2009 that Wilcox might flee to Vancouver where he has family. Wilcox, who is a Canadian citizen and Calgary native, was convicted for sexually abusing his quadriplegic stepson between July 2007 and December 2008.

Muskogee County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Wainwright woman Friday on a warrant alleging child abuse. Sheriff’s Investigator Coletta Peyton said Kalah Poorman, 21, was arrested just before 2 p.m. Friday in Wainwright. Peyton said Poorman allegedly struck her stepson, 7, repeatedly with a paddle, leaving significant bruising. “She hit him with the paddle because he didn’t clean his toothbrush,” Peyton said. “If you saw the picture of the bruises, you’d be mad as hell.”

For nearly a century, the Boy Scouts of America has relied on a confidential blacklist known as the “perversion files” as a crucial line of defense against sexual predators. Scouting officials say they’ve used the files to prevent hundreds of men who had been expelled for alleged sexual abuse from returning to the ranks. They’ve fought hard in court to keep the records from public view, saying confidentiality was needed to protect victims, witnesses and anyone falsely accused. “It is a fact that Scouts are safer because the barrier created by these files is real,” Scouts Chief Executive Robert Mazzuca said in video posted on the organization’s website in June.

Several facts stood out to me from the recent report on the record-high number of child abuse cases in Japan in 2010. One was that in the previous three months, only seven petitions to temporarily suspend parental rights were presented to the court. And of those, only one was granted. Realize that these were not petitions to end parental rights, just to suspend them for up to two years.

SMYRNA, TN — The mother of two children found dead in a car Thursday has now been charged by police. Samantha Harper was arrested and charged with two counts of Especially Aggravated Child Abuse. She is currently being held at the Rutherford County Detention Center and may face other charges.

Several men from all walks of life have been arrested, with several more arrests likely, in a large child pornography ring, involving primarily kids under the age of 4, the youngest, just 19 days old. Authorities say there are over 140 victims, with hundreds of thousands of images on suspects’ computers. A bunny in one of the images was identified as Miffy, a popular Dutch kids story book character. This bunny helped police link this photo with others that had been found, and also to identify the 18-month-old boy in the perverse photographs.

Sidney, Maine – Eric Bard, a 22-year-old Maine resident was jailed Friday after he allegedly raped a 4-year-old girl while recording the assault on his cell phone. According to police, an investigation was launched back in May when a woman contacted police about a suspicious Craigslist ad in which a person said he was interested in giving baths to young children.
