The director general of the British Broadcasting Corporation, George Entwistle, resigned Saturday after only 54 days in the role – the latest to be caught in the wake of a child sex-abuse scandal that has thrown the 90-year-old publicly funded behemoth and other U.K. institutions into deepening turmoil. The scandal, which began with allegations against a single former BBC employee, has since engulfed hospitals, children’s homes, even the police. It also poses questions for Mark Thompson, Entwistle’s immediate predecessor, who on Monday becomes chief executive of The New York Times.

SEATTLE — A local father carried a dark secret for years until he decided to confess his crimes. Bit by bit, he admitted on tape to molesting his daughter. His confession was so convincing, prosecutors charged him. But what happened next sent the family into a tailspin and asking, where is justice for Bella? Bella was a rosy-cheeked, bright-eyed baby. Like all children, before she could form words, she showed her joy in her smile and her frustration in her cries. But Bella had more to tell than she could express.

The family of Alicia Moore says they tried to tell Greenville police something was wrong when the young girl didn’t come home Friday night. Instead they were told to wait until Monday and that she was considered a run-away. The family says they tried to use social media to get help to locate the young girl, and even passed out flyers. On Tuesday the body of the 16 year-old was found inside a furniture trunk. Authorities then held a press conference saying they will investigate the case as a homicide and that the body had a form of trauma.

Artesia, N.M. – Jodi Kirkpatrick, a 42-year-old science teacher Artesia Junior High School, was jailed Friday after she allegedly violently raped several foster children that were in her care. According to police, Kirkpatrick’s sex offender ex-husband, Richard Glascoe, was sentenced to a 25 year sentence after he was found guilty of raping three 7-year-old children that were in foster care.

Moreno Valley police are looking for three different men suspected in several attempted kidnappings of girls walking home in Moreno Valley. Police said the incidents do not appear to be related, but each involved a man trying to lure teen girls away or into their vehicles. The first report was Oct. 31 at 11 a.m. when two high school students said a man approached them each separately and asked the girls to get into his van, Moreno Valley police said.

Two foster parents from Ankeny, IA, Paul and JoAnn Drake, were arrested for false imprisonment and neglect of an abandoned person, after they forced their 13-year-old daughter and 14-year-old son to live in the basement. One of the children eventually informed a school employee that they had been forced to live in the basement as a form of punishment. The employee then proceeded to alert the Department of Human Services.

After years of waiting for justice, a family of Burmese immigrants will finally face the man accused of brutally raping and murdering their seven-year-old daughter in court. Esar Met, 25, is accused of kidnapping, raping and strangling Hser Ner Moo, who was seven years old at the time of her death in March 2008.

A pageant queen and self-ascribed ‘beauty guru’ has sent shock waves through the internet by posting a startling video in which she addresses her rapist father and threatens him with three guns. Brie Lybrand put up a twelve minute piece in which she explains that her abusive father has recently subscribed to her channel and tells him ‘now is the time’ for her to speak out about his crimes. Calling the post, a ‘different kind of video’ than normal, the Lousiana native launches into a harrowing attack on a Steven Bressler, the father she says sexually abused her from the age of four to 13.

LANCASTER COUNTY, SC — A man whose grandson is also his son will spend a year in prison after admitting to sexually assaulting and impregnating his daughter 14 years ago. Fred Lee Montgomery, 47, pleaded guilty to second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor in a Lancaster County courtroom Monday morning. A judge sentenced him to 15 years in prison, but suspended all but one year. Tiara Stevens, 27, who was only 13 years old when she gave birth to her son, said Monday she was shocked by the sentence.

SAYREVILLE, N.J. — A father who threw his infant daughter off a bridge was sentenced to life in prison Wednesday. Shamsiddin Abdur-Raheem, 24, was convicted of killing 3-month-old Zara by throwing her into the Raritan River in February 2010. He was sentenced to an additional 30 years for kidnapping the child from her grandmother?s apartment.

BURBANK, CA — Police have arrested a 14-year-old boy for allegedly sexually abusing a 4-year-old boy at his parents’ day-care center in Burbank. The investigation began on Monday, after the 4-year-old boy’s mother reported the alleged abuse.

This young boy was left barely living while under the inhumane roof of his adoptive parents. Weighing only 35 pounds at 8 years old, the child was checked into Minnesota’s Mayo Clinic Health System for vomiting blood by his adoptive mother Mona Hauer, who was later charged with 6 felonies after it was discovered she and her husband Russell had been starving and beating the boy to near death.

Sandra and Sondra Karwell were arrested in Palm Bay, Florida, after they attacked a mother and her young son. The Karwell’s, 52, have a history of violence, with police charging Sandra only last month after she attempted to run over a child while on her bike.
