Jason Asthana, 32, appeared at a Crown Court hearing held at Brighton Magistrates’ Court accused of inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity and two counts of sex assault on a child under 13. He denies the charges which allegedly took place on one boy between August 2009 and August 2010.

A handbell rang out once after the name and age of each of the 26 people killed in Newtown, Conn., was read aloud on the steps of the North Side Elementary School in Lower Paxton Township on Sunday. About 60 people gathered in front of the school for a short candlelight vigil to pray for and remember victims of the shooting. Except for an occasional passing car, the only other sound was that of a child crying. No cellphones were ringing, no one talked. A single, uniformed township police officer stood by keeping watch.

A security guard’s heroics saved the nation from another tragedy. Jesus Garcia, 19, was hospitalized in San Antonio, TX after the alleged perpetrator fired shots inside of a Chinese restaurant where he used to work at. A police vehicle arrived at the scene, to which Garcia responded by firing several shots. Thankfully, the cop inside the car wasn’t hit.

INDIANA — As the nation mourned the tragedy at the Sandy Hook Elementary School, an Indiana man made terrifying threats of violence toward an elementary school where his wife works. Police arrested Von Meyer, 60, of Cedar Lake, Indiana, after he threatened to kill his wife at the school where she worked and “kill as many people as he could before police could stop him.”

A man stabbed 22 primary school students in a knife attack in China on Friday, officials said, the latest in a series of assaults. The attacker “has been detained”, said a spokesman for the Guangshan county government in the central province of Henan, where the stabbing happened. “Twenty-two elementary school students were stabbed, so was an adult villager” but none of the victims died, the official, who declined to give his name, told AFP.

President Obama on Friday signed into law a bill aimed at fighting child pornography, sexual predators and human trafficking. The Child Protection Act increases the penalties for child pornography, protects child witnesses and gives U.S. marshals new powers to obtain time-sensitive documents involved in the cases. In addition, the law extends federal funding for regional Internet task forces that focus on cybercrimes.

A mother who was high on a cocktail of drugs and alcohol killed her four-month-old son when she knocked a large television on to his head, a court has heard. Preston Crown Court was told that Natalie McMillan, 25, from Burnley in Lancashire had taken a mixture of heroin and Valium and was in no fit state to look after her son Kian when the incident happened. The youngster suffered ‘catastrophic’ brain injuries the day after the television toppled from a cupboard while he was resting on a mat on the floor of the family home last December.

A Criminal Court jury on Thursday afternoon convicted Reginald Tumlin of criminally negligent homicide, aggravated child neglect and two counts of child abuse. He avoided a life sentence for a conviction of felony murder, but he still is facing extensive prison time at a later sentencing hearing. Tumlin has numerous prior felony convictions. If he is adjudged a “career offender” he would be facing 60 years at 60 percent before parole consideration.
