I have always been fairly frank with my kids. I started the difficult conversations about things like sex, sexuality, drugs, and peer pressure when they were very young. As they grew older, the conversations evolved and I felt confident that they were comfortable talking to me. So, I patted myself on the back, thinking I’d done my job well. Last year, though, I was blindsided when someone in my family was sentenced on charges of possession of sexually explicit material. This was a difficult conversation I never thought to have with my kids — a conversation about child pornography and sexual predators.

A Texas dance and cheer coach was arrested at Dallas Airport on suspicion of child abuse before he could board a flight to Paris Tuesday. Kyle Austin Ware, 30, has been charged with three counts of continuous abuse of a child under age 14 – a felony. If convicted, he could face up to 99 years in prison. He is being held at the Collin County Jail on $300,000. Ware stands accused of abusing three of his students while working at Express Cheer & Dance, a private training studio in Fresno.

The sisters of child killer Mairead Philpott claim she is a ‘victim’ of her controlling husband Mick – but they cannot forgive her for the deaths of their nieces and nephews. Jennifer Lobban and Bernadette Duffy told of their desperate attempts to convince her to leave Mick since they married in May 2003, and take the children away. They claim Mairead was so unhappy she had even attempted suicide in the months before the tragic fire.

A former Church of England priest and a retired organist were found guilty today of a string of child sex abuse offences. Father Keith Wilkie Denford, 78, and Michael Mytton, 69, abused their access to young boys while they worked together at St John the Evangelist Church in Burgess Hill, West Sussex. Hove Crown Court heard how the priest had gave one of the boys alcohol and then got into a bath with him while aroused. Denford had invited the boy to stay over after he acted as a waiter for a dinner party at his house.

24-year old Ashley Delvalle of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania has been arrested after posingas a nurse and assaulting children in a hospital. Ashley Delvalle brought her own child to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children before wandering off to play nurse. Police confirm that Delvalle walked in to several rooms in the hospital and informed parents that she was a nurse.

Florida child pornography lover to-the-max, John Edward Shearen, 51, accused of downloading and distributing over a million child pornography visuals. Shearen was arrested at his apartment and charged with 15 counts of possession of child pornography and distribution, reports the Orlando Sentinel.

Grant Smith, 50, has jail sentence suspended by judge so long he sticks to the terms of his five-year probation after he was caught viewing child pornography on an airplane. According to Daily Mail, a Boston judge suspended Grant Smith’s 2 1/2-year sentence after the Salt Lake City father of two pleaded guilty on Thursday to possessing child pornography.

Anti-rape underwear which delivers a 3,800 kilovolt shock to any would-be attacker has been created by a team of Indian engineering students. After disabling the assailant, the undergarment has been designed to automatically send a text message to police or family members containing the GPS location of the attempted crime. Pressure sensors on the garment, sewn in around the bust area, detect unwanted force and trigger the powerful shock. It can deliver up to 82 electric shocks, more than enough to disable any attacker.

A predatory paedophile plotted to ‘breed’ a daughter he could sexually abuse, a court heard today. Robin Malka, 38, hatched a ‘twisted and depraved’ plan to father his own victims and feed his sexual obsession with children. French-born Malka said he believed having sex with babies was ‘natural and beautiful’ and sent sickening images of infants being molested and raped. Malka used the online username ‘dom4padeomom’ while he chatted with undercover officers ‘Stevie’ and ‘Craig’ about abusing two girls aged three and five. He was also a member of sickening internet groups including ‘family fun incest’ and ‘all about incest’.

A mother who starved her teenage daughter to death after joining a ‘pro-hunger’ group has been charged with her murder. Ebony Espree Berry’s 16-year-old daughter Markea Blakely-Berry, who was mentally disabled, weighed just 43-lbs at the time of her death in Georgia in June 2012. Berry, 38, has been charged with murder and two counts of first-degree child cruelty. If convicted she faces a maximum of life in prison plus 20 years.

A day care center in northeastern Pennsylvania has been shut down after official say children were duct taped and abused and punishment. According to the Department of Public Welfare, two employees at Just 4 Kids Day Care and Learning Center in Hamlin held a child upside-down by his ankles to stop him from biting staff and made the boy walk around in underwear to punish him for soiling his pants. Officials say the boy’s hands and feet were duct-taped to keep him still. The owner of the business, Doreen Tomasetti, 42, has appealed the closing of her day care center.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A registered sex offender in Winston-Salem was arrested on charges that he sexually assaulted a child at church. Henry Clifford Byrd Sr., 65, has been charged with one count of first degree rape of a child and one count of indecent liberties with a child. Winston-Salem police said they were called to New Bethel Baptist Church at 1016 N. Trade St. on March 23 in response to a reported forcible rape of a child.

There’s been some buzz this week about the newest scientific discovery that can help the in vitrofertilization (IVF) process: doctors now have the ability to harvest the eggs of aborted baby girls and use them to aid women who have difficulty conceiving. IVF is already riddled with moral conundrums, not the least of which is the “selective reduction” abortions that often follow an overly successful IVF procedure (where a woman aborts one or more of multiple babies she has unwittingly conceived). There is also the problem of fertilized human zygotes (aka little humans) who are not selected for implantation being simply discarded without a second thought as to their intrinsic value as humans.
