HILLSBORO, Ohio —Police say the mother charged in her 1-year-old child’s death was investigated six months before he was found dead. Hillsboro investigators uncovered 1-year-old Garin Niehaus’ body in a shallow grave in the woods last Friday. Police charged the baby’s mother, Whitney Johnson, 26, and her boyfriend Nathan Ritze, 25, in Niehaus’ death.

Police have called off the search for a missing seven-month-old baby boy believed to be dead, but they are pursuing other leads. Police and cadaver dogs fanned out in an area near the Susquehanna River in Columbia, Lancaster County, shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday. Searchers were hoping for the best but preparing for the worst. They were searching for a baby kidnapped from a home in Upper Darby, outside Philadelphia. The Upper Darby police are leading the search with help from local departments and the Department of Homeland Security.

SAN DIEGO — The husband of a woman whose body was found in a burned house near the U.S.-Mexico border said Tuesday that he knew the man suspected of killing his wife and abducting one or both of their children. The disclosure came as a manhunt for James Lee DiMaggio, 40, expanded. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department has said DiMaggio and the victim, 44-year-old Christina Anderson, had been in a close, platonic relationship.

Raymond DePaula of Marblehead was ordered held on $100,000 cash bail Monday for allegedly raping a 6-year-old girl and posting online photographs of him engaging in sexual acts with the child. DePaula, 40, of 23 Puritan Road, was arraigned in Salem Superior Court on the charges as well as those alleging he possessed child pornography and improperly stored a firearm, said Carrie Kimball-Monahan, spokeswoman for Essex County District Attorney Jonathan Blodget’s office.

STONINGTON, CT— Connecticut police say a frightened 10-year-old boy called to say he was considering jumping from a car his father was driving while under the influence. Police said 49-year-old Owen Gilman, of Warwick, R.I., hit another vehicle Wednesday night on Interstate 95 in Stonington. The unidentified motorist in the other vehicle was hospitalized. His condition wasn’t known Thursday. Gilman was charged with reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and other offenses. It wasn’t clear if Gilman has a lawyer. A telephone listing for Gilman couldn’t be found.

A 30-year-old Florida man was arrested last Thursday in connection to alleged child rape offenses that occurred while he was stationed as an airman at Dover Air Force Base, authorities said. Jesus Munoz, currently active enlisted at Patrick Air Force Base in Melbourne, Fla. according to papers, was charged with two first-degree rape counts, 52 charges of first-degree unlawful sexual contact, second-degree assault and continuous sexual abuse of a child.

Child abuse images are being unwittingly hosted by ordinary websites, according to an internet watchdog. In the last six weeks, there have been an unprecedented number of reports of the illegal images appearing on pages as mundane as furniture websites, the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) said. The charity said it had received 227 reports in that time of websites being hijacked by hackers who post images of child abuse.

A judge allowed a pedophile to walk free after his 13-year-old victim was described as a ‘sexual predator’ who was ‘egging him on’ to engage in a sexual act. Judge Nigel Peters told Neil Wilson, 41, who pleaded guilty to the abuse, he had also taken account the fact the child looked older. Wilson lured the teenager to his home in Romford, Essex, where he watched her strip out of her school uniform before she performed a sex act on him. The abuse did not come to light until the girl confided in a friend who then told police. During a search of Wilson’s home officers also uncovered a stash of images and videos depicting child abuse and bestiality.

A teenager was found hanged at her home after suffering months of bullying by anonymous ‘trolls’ on a notorious website. Hannah Smith, 14, was taunted on Ask.fm – linked to at least four teenage deaths in the past year – over her weight, the death of an uncle and an apparent propensity to self-harm. She had also been urged to ‘drink bleach’ by the anonymous tormentors, friends said. The tragedy comes amid a continuing escalation of the abusive and threatening ‘trolling’ of high-profile women on Twitter.

A married GP and Christian leader has admitted sexually assaulting child patients as young as 18 months and taking indecent photos of them during medical examinations. Dr Barend Delport, 55, also pleaded guilty to having 500,000 indecent images of children on his computer, including some at category five, the most serious level. Police said the South-African born doctor had committed ‘an appalling and gross breach of trust’ during his nine-year reign of abuse.
