A group of men, who were abused as children whilst in state care in the Great Southern, are demanding government compensation. Dennis John McKenna managed a government-run boarding hostel, and abused six boys between 1977 and 1985. The victims were staying at the hostel while they attended a nearby high school.

CHARLOTTE, NC- A man is in jail charged in connection with the death of a toddler who died Friday morning after suffering a severe injury earlier this week. Several child sex abuse charges were filed against a Tennessee National Guardsman accused of fondling a 10-year-old relative last month, a Rutherford County Sheriff’s detective said. Suspect James Dean Jr., 47, of 104 Fulwood Court near Murfreesboro, was charged with two counts of aggravated sexual battery by an authority figure, indecent exposure and child abuse.

NAVARRE — A 38-year-old Airman was arrested Sept. 7 on charges of child abuse. Everett D. Williams was charged with aggravated child abuse after bringing his 4-month-old in to Eglin Air Force Base’s emergency room for a broken arm.
GILBERT, Ariz. – A woman is behind bars after allegedly abusing her adopted 10-year-old son. Court paperwork indicated the 10-year-old victim was physically and sexually abused by Jennifer Barnes, 39, his adoptive mother.

NORWALK, CA — A Norwalk math tutor has been arrested for allegedly committing sex crimes against a 13-year-old female student and officials are seeking additional victims. Frank Chung, 63, was arrested at his home in La Palma Thursday afternoon on suspicion of lewd acts with a minor. He was being held on $1 million bail.

RALEIGH — Joshua Stepp, a former Army infantryman who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, was convicted today of sex offense with a child by an adult and first-degree murder. The verdict came after the six men and six women deliberated for nearly seven hours over the past three days. Stepp was convicted of murdering and sexually assaulting Cheyenne Yarley, his 10-month-old stepdaughter.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – A Cookeville man will spend four years behind bars for using a belt to whip his young stepdaughter. 22-year-old Jon Swearinger pleaded guilty to child abuse, and was sentenced to four years in prison.

MORGANTOWN — The state police have arrested a Monongalia County man and charged him with felony child abuse. John Anthony Kelch faces two counts of child abuse causing risk of injury. Authorities said Kelch physically and verbally abused two male juveniles in his home, located on East Brockway Avenue in Morgantown.
