COURT HOUSE, N.J. — Cape May County had the highest number of children in out-of-home placement in 2010 and the second highest number of abuse and neglect investigations in 2009, according to the non-profit organization Advocates for Children in New Jersey (ACNJ). In the statewide report on child well being, the organization used a scale from 1 to 21, with 21 being the worst. Cape May County ranked 18.

Vatican official: Sexual abuse of minors requires strong response

VATICAN CITY (CNS) — The phenomenon of the sexual abuse of minors within the church requires a strong response that is not “not inertia, a culture of silence or repression,” said the Vatican’s top investigator of clerical sex abuse said. Msgr. Charles Scicluna, promoter of justice for the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, said that the church must do all it can to respond to the problem and emphasize that protection of children is integral to the good of the universal church.

This question is complex and very complicated to answer for the purpose of this web site. To even attempt it I run the fear of over simplification. Pedophiles have long been a mystery to why they abuse? We do know there is an arousal as well as a control factor. There is also an addictive quality that is taking place. The treatment is difficult, expensive and riddled with failures. There is no simple answer. I have spent years assessing and treating pedophiles with minimal success. One has to re frame, take a different view. If there is only one success out of one hundred , then many children have been saved from the emotional torment. It has emotional drained me from time to time, and I have had to take numerous sabbaticals.

Almost unthinkable – yet a more common CRIME than you might believe. In 2011, so far three children in the UK have been found guilty of murdering their parents. But what drives a child to kill their mum or dad? Abuse? Or just a petty row?

Just after 1am on July 7 last year, Ashleigh Robinson, a bright 19 year old from Colwyn Bay, North Wales, pressed ‘send’ on her mobile phone. The message was for her mother, Joanne Barr, and simply read: “Things happened, he is no more. Sorry mum xxx”. It soon became horribly clear just what Ashleigh was referring to. She and her sister, Holly, who was just 16, had plotted to have their loving dad, Antoni, 61, killed. The text was sent moments after the deed had been done.

The former First Lady of Arkansas and of the United States, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, wrote the book “It Takes a Village,” based on an old African proverb that it takes a village to raise a child. This is never more true than when it comes to protecting children from what seems to be a growing number of sexual predators, those who work in law enforcement say. Authorities want it known that sexual predators in Greene County should know they are being watched, they are being reported and investigated and they will be prosecuted by a team of experts dedicated to protecting children. And, “the villagers” need to know their role in protecting children from becoming victims of sexual predators.

ALMOST 300 reports of children at risk of abuse in the Northern Territory have not been investigated, despite an independent inquiry last year slamming authorities for allowing a backlog of cases that included a baby who later died. Just eight months after the NT Department of Children and Families was ordered to never allow a repeat of the backlog, it has confirmed there are 290 complaints of suspected child abuse it has yet to begin investigating.
