How Child Molesters Operate

Posted by Sandra On September - 19 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

Once a parent realizes that child sexual abuse is most often perpetrated by a known and trusted adult, the next step is to learn how child molesters typically operate. When you understand the process the molester follows, it becomes easier to spot the subtle signs of sexual abuse. The most common pattern of child sexual abuse involves the adult using his or her position of authority and influence to first gain the child or teen’s trust, then to slowly ease his or her way further into the child’s life by giving them money, presents and, most importantly, showering them with attention. This process is called grooming and follows a very deliberate pattern.

Abuse Rose During Recession

Posted by Sandra On September - 18 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

CHICAGO — An increase in child abuse, mostly in infants, is linked with the recent recession in new research that raises fresh concerns about the impact of the nation’s economic woes. The results are in a study of 422 abused children from mostly lower-income families, known to face greater risks for being abused, and the research involved just 74 counties in four states. But lead author Dr. Rachel Berger of Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh said the results confirm anecdotal reports from many pediatricians who’ve seen increasing numbers of shaken baby cases and other forms of brain-injuring abuse.

Child Sexual Abuse Resources

Incest is defined as sexual contact between people so closely related that they may not legally marry. In certain contexts the term has been expanded to include sexual contact with caregivers in who an individual depends for day-to-day care (such as a step-parent or a babysitter). Incest generally occurs as child sexual abuse by an older family member to a younger child or teenager. The perpetrator can be anyone in the child’s family: a parent, a sibling, an uncle, a grandfather, just to name a few.

The number of people convicted of sex offences on children aged under 16 in England and Wales has increased by nearly 60% in six years. A Freedom of Information request to the Ministry of Justice found that in 2005, 1,363 people were convicted while in 2010, it was 2,135. The rise has been attributed to better detection and raised awareness. Child protection groups say the number is relatively small and that it remains a grossly under-reported crime.
