Their history with Clark County Child Protective Services stretches back to 2008. Las Vegas parents Donald E. Brown and Melissa D. Lawrence received 10 visits from CPS staff investigating allegations of possible neglect or abuse reported to the county’s child abuse hotline from 2008 to 2012, according to police and court records. CPS, part of the Department of Family Services, investigated the welfare of one of Melissa’s daughters, who had injuries that included black eyes, bruises and a chipped tooth during that four-year period, court records show. Court records also show the agency was aware during a 2010 investigation that Brown, 51, already had a criminal conviction in the death of another child. Respiratory virus probed in muscle paralysis cases in 9 Colorado kids

Health officials are investigating nine cases of muscle weakness or paralysis in Colorado children and whether the culprit might be a virus causing severe respiratory illness across the country. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday sent doctors an alert about the polio-like cases and said the germ – enterovirus 68 – was detected in four out of eight of the sick children who had a certain medical test. The status of the ninth case is unclear. The virus can cause paralysis but other germs can, too. A four-month-old baby is fighting for his life after his drug addict parents fed him crystal meth to stop him from crying. Silvia Strnadova, 26, and husband Miroslav, 30, took the unconscious child to hospital but he was left brain dead and is only being kept alive by a life support machine. The parents from the town of Prievidza in the north-western Slovak region of Horna Nitrawere were arrested after police discovered that they had given the infant a strong dose of the potent drug. Pennsylvania — A priest accused of traveling to Honduras to engage in sex with children while promoting missionary work with the poor there has been arrested by federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials. The Rev. Joseph Maurizio Jr., 69, was arrested Thursday and will remain in custody until a hearing Monday before a federal magistrate in Pittsburgh. The judge must decide then whether the priest will remain jailed until he can stand trial. The Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown said it was “profoundly disturbed by the allegations against Father Maurizio.” It said he has not functioned as pastor of Our Lady Queen of Angels Parish since federal authorities searched the parish rectory on Sept. 12. WASHINGTON — When FBI agents and police officers fanned out across the country last month in a weeklong effort to rescue child sex trafficking victims, they pulled minors as young as 11 from hotel rooms, truck stops and homes. Among the 168 juveniles recovered was a population that child welfare advocates say especially concerns them: children who were never reported missing in the first place. Advocates say the roundup reinforces the need for a standardized, nationwide approach to reporting children as missing, especially those absent from state foster care systems who are seen as most vulnerable to abuse. Concerns over unaccounted-for children aren’t new, but they’re receiving fresh attention amid heightened awareness of child sex trafficking. PLYMOUTH, Michigan –A 33-year old man accused of taking upskirt photos of a 13- year-old girl in a book store has been ordered to stand trial on a felony charge. Ronald Burrill from West Bloomfield is charged with one count of eavesdropping installing/using device.  That carries a sentence of two years in prison, which carries a maximum sentence of two years in prison and or a fine of $2,000. Fugitive Nanny Wanted in Child Abuse Case

A Southern California nanny is wanted by police for child abuse for allegedly giving two young children regular doses of adult cold and flu medicine before their nap time, police and the family of the children said. The boy’s parents believe their young children were being drugged by the same woman they trusted for more than a year to care for them. The parents claim she gave their 5-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter daily swigs of adult strength over-the-counter cold and cough medicine so they would nap. Police: Fugitive nanny gave children medicine to sleep

EL PASO, Texas – Crimes Against Persons have arrested and charged three people after a two-year-old girl dies. El Paso Fire Fighters responded at around 4:50p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, to an apartment located at 4011 Alabama after a child was found to be unresponsive. The child was transported to El Paso Children’s Hospital by the El Paso Fire Department. At around 5:56pm El Paso Police were sent to the hospital after the child had died. Injuries were observed that appeared to be suspicious and, Crimes Against Persons was requested to take over the investigation. The Vatican has opened a criminal trial against its former ambassador to the Dominican Republic and placed him under house arrest, marking the first time a high-ranking official has been criminally charged by the Vatican with sexual abuse of children. Josef Wesolowski was defrocked in June after the Vatican’s canon law court found him guilty of abuse and returned him to life as a layman.
