Alice, TX – A Texas church’s pledge to help pregnant women in their community took on new meaning when a congregation member discovered a newborn infant abandoned inside a shoebox near the church’s front doors. A sign outside the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Alice, Texas promises “Financial or medical aid, along with emotional support or pastoral care for any expectant mother facing a crisis pregnancy.” The church’s only condition, as stated on the sign, is that the child “be allowed to live.”  READ MORE HERE

WVIT – A West Haven, Connecticut mother is accused of tormenting and abusing her 10-month baby and video-taping the incidents. It’s disturbing abuse police say that unfolded inside a second floor apartment. Kellie Park is charged with cruelty to persons and other offenses for harming her 10-month old daughter. “That’s good that’s someone’s intervening. WATTS, CA — Arraignment is expected Friday for a 15-year-old suspected gang member accused in the shooting death of a 1-year-old boy in Watts. Donald Dokins was arrested on Wednesday. He is charged with one count of murder, with the allegation that it was a gang crime, and one count of attempted first-degree murder. Sierra Newbold: Six-year-old Utah girl found dead in canal near home, police say

WEST JORDAN, Utah – A 6-year-old girl found dead in a canal near her home was sexually assaulted and authorities are now searching for a suspect, police said Wednesday. Police in the Salt Lake City suburb of West Jordan said the girl was reported missing by her mother early Tuesday morning. UPDATE: TV5 can confirm that the body of missing 4-year-old Carnel Chamberlain was found on Thursday afternoon underneath a patio at the boy’s home. Police in Mount Pleasant were seen putting up crime scene tape around Carnel’s mother’s house. A crime lab vehicle and two Michigan State Police cars pulled up to the house and brought in a cadaver dog late Thursday afternoon. A Lumberton man has been indicted by a Hardin County Grand Jury on a felony charge of injury to a child with intent to cause bodily injury after he allegedly held a 5-year-old girl upside down by her feet and hit her repeatedly with a board. NATIONAL CITY, CA — Police were investigating an apparent murder-suicide involving a man and his two children at a National City motel Tuesday. Officers went to the Paradise Motel at 1470 National City Blvd. at about 10 a.m. to perform a welfare check on the occupants of one of the rooms, Sgt. Julian Villagomez said. Galina Ryabkova, 30, from Moscow, Russia, threw her two young sons, 4, and 7, off a 15th-floor balcony to their death on Sunday because she was “fed up” with them. MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — The mother of a 4-year-old boy reported missing from a mid-Michigan Indian reservation said Monday she is holding out hope that he’ll be found safe as additional searches were planned. FBI: Child Prostitution Sweep Rescues 79 Children

During a three-day law enforcement sweep targeting the problem of teenage prostitution, officers rescued 79 children and arrested 104 alleged pimps, the FBI announced Monday.Operation Cross Country 6 took place from Friday though Sunday with more than 2,500 state, local and federal officers working in 57 cities.FBI Acting Executive Assistant Director Kevin Perkins said the children law enforcement freed from their handlers ranged in age from 13 to 17 years old with one girl saying she had gotten involved in prostitution when she was 11 years old.  READ MORE HERE

Former ESPN personality Dana Jacobson has spoken out about a personal experience with child abuse. Drawing strength from the testimony of the witnesses in the Jerry Sandusky abuse case, Jacobson shared her story of being violated by a male babysitter on her blog this morning:

“Like the young men who bravely took the stand in the Sandusky trial, I was molested as a child. That’s still not easy for me to say, let alone write and share publicly, but if we’ve learned anything from the Sandusky scandal it’s that the time for silence is over. As I heard one Sandusky victim put it, it’s time to “find my voice.”
