CA–The suspect was last seen driving a dark blue van

HIGHLAND PARK, CA — Police are searching for a suspect who attempted to kidnap a 12-year-old girl on her way to Luther Burbank Middle School Monday morning. It happened around 7 a.m. in an alley adjacent to the Metro Gold Line between Avenue 60 and Avenue 61 in the Highland Park area of Los Angeles.

Police say a black man driving an older model dark blue van with tinted windows stopped his vehicle and pretended to inspect it in the alleyway when he grabbed the young girl as she walked by and tried to pull her into the van.

Police Looking for Suspected CA “Bedroom Intruder”

RANCHO PALOS VERDES — Los Angeles County Sheriff’s detectives released photographs Thursday of a man wanted for breaking into a Rancho Palos Verdes home and stroking the hair of a sleeping teenage girl. The photos were taken from surveillance video of the man about five hours before the break-in last week at an undisclosed location.

NEW YORK — The mother of an Alabama teen who vanished in Aruba in 2005 entered a Peruvian jail and talked directly with the Dutchman suspected in her daughter’s disappearance, her attorney said Friday.

In an interview on NBC’s “Today,” lawyer John Q. Kelly said Natalee Holloway’s mother Beth Twitty entered the jail “without violating any laws or breaking any regulations” and spoke with Joran van der Sloot.

Glendale police say teens are raiding their parents’ medicine cabinets looking for prescription drugs.

GLENDALE — Police are warning parents in Glendale, La Crescenta and Montrose about so-called “cabinet parties” — a new trend involving teens and prescription drugs.

Glendale police officers met with parents Wednesday night at Verdugo Hills Hospital to warn them about the dangers lurking in their medicine cabinets.

CALABASAS — Sheriff’s deputies are searching for a man accused of trying to sexually assault an 8-year-old girl in Calabasas. The attempted assault occurred at approximately 2:45 p.m. Wednesday in the 23600 block of Park Capri, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officials said.

The legitimacy of a man’s trek across the country by bicycle to bring awareness to teen suicide recently has come into question.

David Alexander told multiple newspapers that his teenage daughter Angela killed herself after his wife died of cancer. He claimed to be from Durand and was featured in The Argus-Press in December 2009.

The Argus-Press initially contacted Alexander, now believed to be one-time sex offender Michael Rabitaille, via phone through a newspaper in the southeast United States after that paper wrote about his travels and identified him as being from Durand.

A boy has been arrested for his alleged part in a crime so disgusting, so repulsive, that it’s enough to make one physically sick.

The crime in question is the gang rape of a 16-year-old girl by a group of at least five men at a rave in Pitt Meadows last Friday. The boy who was arrested, also 16-years-old, is believed to be responsible for taking and distributing photos of the assault (on Facebook) and is going to be charged accordingly.

American children are identified as victims of child abuse, but this number could be woefully underestimated considering how many cases go unreported and unrecognized.  According to a new study in the Journal of Pediatrics, part of this problem can be attributed to the lack of attention to pharmaceutical-related abuse.  Researchers discovered an alarming number of incidents involving young kids purposely receiving inappropriate doses of substances, enough to warrant bringing awareness to this dangerous abuse. In addition to sedatives, some of the most common drugs used as a form of abuse included antidepressants, antihistamines, and pain killers.

The South Florida mother of five kids whose father is accused of beating them with a machete has also been arrested. Latoya Richardson, 27, faces aggravated child abuse and child neglect charges related to the incident that happened earlier this month. Richardson, police say, failed to protect her kids from bad dad Miky Sinaise, 29, who beat the kids, aged between 8-months old to 8-years-old, with the flat side of a machete.

A bubbly, extroverted young girl who had been popular with classmates suddenly becomes withdrawn in the middle of the school year.

Her demeanor changes. She stops going to school. Her grades drop.

“She starts going into her little shell,” said Chris Barnhill, executive director of Williamson County CASA.

School officials suspect something is up, and after her fifth unexcused absence, a court-appointed special advocate is asked to look into the girl’s home situation.

The advocate discovers the girl is being abused by her father.

She is taken out of the home and parental rights are terminated.

Her father goes to prison. Her mother loses custody because it is discovered that she was aware of the situation and did not intervene.

Not merely a difficult scenario, this is a true story. The girl is now in foster care and is awaiting adoption. It all happened in Williamson County.

Suellen Roberts and her 12-year-old daughter were visiting the Bearizona Wildlife Park and they may have been accompanied by a man.

PHOENIX — Arizona authorities are searching for a Nevada woman and her young daughter, reported missing in the Flagstaff area.

The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office says 31-year-old Suellen Roberts and her 12-year-old daughter, Lexis, were visiting the Bearizona Wildlife Park in Williams last weekend and they may have been accompanied by a man.

CINCINNATI, Ohio — A grand jury has indicted a young mother accused of providing marijuana to her 2-year-old daughter and using her cell phone to record the child smoking the drug.

Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph Deters said Wednesday that 21-year-old Jessica Gamble of Springfield Township in suburban Cincinnati was indicted on child endangering and other charges.

9th Baby Dies in Whooping Cough Epidemic

Cases of whooping cough this year may break a 55-year record.

LOS ANGELES — A ninth baby in California has died from whooping cough, and state health officials say the epidemic is on track to break a 55-year record. Some 4,017 infections have been reported statewide this year. Health officials say the nine deaths occurred in babies too young to be fully immunized against the illness.

An Elmhurst woman was charged Tuesday with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery of a child and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after she allegedly attacked her 9-month-old grandson with a knife.

Elmhurst police said they responded Saturday to the 100 block of Willow Road in Elmhurst after a report that an infant had been stabbed.
