Child abuse on the rise in Sullivan County

The number of physical and sexual child abuse cases referred to the Sullivan County District Attorney’s office in 2010 was 929, according to a report compiled by the DA’s office. In 2009, that number was 715. “There is a problem and it’s probably greater than the average citizen understands,” said Assistant DA Barry Staubus. Staubus works with Children’s Advocacy Center Forensic Interviewer Amy Whitt-Bachman when prosecuting child abuse cases.
