Mandatory Reporting Law Does Not Apply to Adult Patients
Child abuse reporting laws do not apply to adult patients who talk about childhood problems in therapy, the attorney general’s office ruled Wednesday. In December, the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists asked the attorney general to clarify Texas’ mandatory reporter law, which requires certain professionals to report suspected child abuse or neglect to authorities within 48 hours of a disclosure.
