While his peers are enjoying weekends hanging out at parks or malls, Paul Gingerich spends his days locked in a cell with a steel door and razor-sharp wire obscuring the view from his window. The 14-year-old moved to Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility, Indiana’s maximum-security jail for children, two years ago for his part in the fatal shooting of his friend’s stepfather. Thoughts and prayers are with this young boy. When I was his age I desperately wanted someone to protect me and the closest person to me only made me feel more alone. I wanted to kill my stepfather, but did not. No judgement on this boy or even my wishes to do the same. We all make choices. I hope that he makes some positive choices in jail like doing something educational and knowing he is worth it. Peace and thoughts of understanding…
