Legislature passes ‘Jerry Sandusky bill’ requiring college employees to report child abuse
OLYMPIA—The state Legislature passed and sent the governor Thursday the ‘
Jerry Sandusky bill’ requiring some higher education employees to report suspected child abuse or neglect to authorities. The legislation became known as the “Jerry Sandusky bill” after the former assistant coach at
Penn State University who has been accused of molesting minors. “In following the horrific media coverage of the Penn State University abuse scandal last fall, I knew right away we had to add higher education employees as mandatory reporters of child abuse or neglect,” said the bill’s sponsor, state Sen.Jeanne Kohl-Welles, D-Seattle.

Patti Penning Says:
EVERYONE should be legally REQUIRED to report suspected child abuse, NOT JUST Higher Education Employees! Silence is participation. A mother/caretaker/parent/grandparent who allows idiotic inappropriate behavior towards a child such as allowing someone unrelated to sleep with their child or bathe their child, is completely guilty of “RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT OF A CHILD” because it is well known that only a child molester would unnecessarily sleep with or bathe an unrelated child. Therefore it is the parents responsibility to protect their kids because the laws cannot, and will not. When the parents act so recklessly and negligently, they should be prosecuted just as the offender is, and just like those who suspect a murder and do nothing about it are. Also women like Sandusky’s wife should seve just as much jail time. She knew of the abuse, as most of the enablers do. Pedophiles/child molesters purposely choose needy women who will allow them to molest. That is a proven fact therefore Sandusky’s wife should be in jail. One child claims to have screamed for help when she was home. She’s just as guilty as the offender, and she could have stopped it 1000’s of children ago. Those around the abuse need to be held responsible along with the offender, otherwise this epidemic will never go away.
