Govt to Launch Recommendations on Child Welfare & Abuse
CO.NZ–Immediate action must be taken over the country’s terrible child abuse rate and discussions over the issue should not delay work, critics say. The Government is to launch its Green Paper on child welfare and abuse tomorrow. The discussion document will contain controversial recommendations including questioning the current whanau-first policy for children taken out of their homes, mandatory reporting by professionals, and prioritising parents ahead of others for receiving state services.
