Palm Bay – Police arrest a man for the murder of a 2 year old child.
28 year old Jason Padgett was arrested early Sunday morning in Palm Bay.
He’s charged with Felony Murder, Child Neglect, Aggravated Manslaughter of a Child and Aggravated Child Abuse.
On April 7th a two-year-old boy arrived at Holmes Regional Medical Center with severe head trauma.
He was later taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando where he died the next day.
An autopsy showed the child suffered from multiple brain hemorrhages from being severely shaken or from blunt force trauma.
There was also evidence of possible sexual abuse.
Police tell FOX 35 the child’s mother left her 2-year-old son with Padgett while she went to work the night of April 7th.
Witnesses told detectives Padgett had been smoking marijuana while “caring” for the child.
Padgett claims the child fell off the toilet and hit his head on the floor but at the time admits he was not concerned the child needed medical attention even though the child was bleeding and became unresponsive.
