Figures paint grim picture of abuse, neglect

Federal Families Minister Jenny Macklin says she is horrified by new figures that show a large increase in the number of children having to be removed from their families because of abuse and neglect.

Child abuse has increased 134% since 1980 and is now considered a worldwide epidemic. The high jump in child abuse deaths and the shocking increase in statistics highlights the frightening lack of public knowledge.
