Monday was a beautiful day for a walk in Port Huron. More than 400 new friends took advantage of the cloudless skies and warm temperatures to take part in the Million March Against Child Abuse, a cooperative 250-city march to raise awareness about child abuse. The anti-abuse activists gathered at Pine Grove Park and marched to the court house and back to the park, where they participated in several family fun activities at the park. Don’t be alarmed when you see the throng of marchers in downtown Port Huron on Monday. The marchers are concerned people taking part in the Port Huron Million March Against Child Abuse.
By the time you finish reading this, 15 children will have been abused; In the next five minutes, 30 more; Within the next hour, 360 more; And by tonight, close to 8,000+ children will have suffered from abuse, 5 of which will die. Child abuse has increased 134% since 1980 and is now considered a worldwide epidemic. The high jump in child abuse deaths and the shocking increase in statistics highlights the frightening lack of public knowledge.
