Court ruling may shrink Iowa’s child abuse registry
A database that schools, daycares, nursing homes and countless other organizations use to check the history of potential employees and volunteers could be cut in half by an Iowa Supreme Court ruling, officials say.
The child abuse registry has approximately 53,000 people with founded cases of child abuse filed against them, said Roger Munns, a spokesman for the Iowa Department of Human Services. Half of them are there because officials determined they did not adequately supervise children in their care.
