A MAN from Ramsgate who fled justice after committing a string of vile sex crimes against young girls has been sentenced to 12 years in prison. Ian Duncan McLeod-McLean, 48, fled the country after he was charged by police but on October 29 he sentenced to 12 years in prison at Maidstone Crown Court. McLeod-McLean, previously of Monkton Street, was due to stand trial in May 2008, but went to Sierra Leone, where he slept rough for two years as an illegal immigrant. Police finally caught him after he contracted a serious bout of malaria and was hospitalised. When it was discovered he was an illegal immigrant and wanted by UK police, authorities sprang into action and he was deported back to the UK where he was arrested upon arrival at London Heathrow. McLeod-McLean had admitted 20 counts of sexual abuse at an earlier hearing on September 30.
