POMONA – An ex-Azusa resident was sentenced Wednesday to 25 years to life in prison for fatally beating his girlfriend’s 16-month-old son while the boy was in his care in 2011. Wearing an orange jail jumpsuit and now sporting a beard and a mustache, Stephen Hoffman didn’t make a statement at his sentencing held at Pomona Superior Court. But he had earlier taken out a piece of paper which he unfolded and placed on the table in front of him. It wasn’t clear if this was a written statement.
