TAUNTON, Mass., (WPRI) – A jury has found a Taunton man guilty of rape and assault of a child.

John Hornedo, 33, has been sentenced to serve 12 years in prison. He will have to serve all 12 years.

HARRISONVILLE, Mo. (CBS/AP) A Missouri man who was convicted in April of molesting his daughter for years, fathering four children by her and causing the death of one of those children, was sentenced to life in prison plus 22 years Tuesday.

Danial Rinehart shrugged and shook his head when asked by the judge if he had anything to say to his victim or his family before being sentenced, then stood stone faced as she read her decision on his fate.

Predators who commit sex crimes against children use parents’ trust of their children to their advantage.

“It’s easy,” said Ted Motley, chief investigator for the Covington County Sheriff’s office. “All it takes is a cell phone, a computer, a little spare time and the want-to.”

Since January, his department has received an average of three reports of child sex abuse per week. It’s Motley’s responsibility to investigate child sex crimes.

DOVER — A seven-bill package addressing shortcomings uncovered in the investigation of Dr. Earl B. Bradley, the Lewes pediatrician accused of sexually abusing 103 patients, was unveiled Wednesday.

The proposals, drafted by the governor’s and attorney general’s offices, include measures that would increase the power of the Board of Medical Practice, strengthen penalties against abusers, mandate adult supervision while a child under 15 is being treated and provide additional training for law enforcement, doctors and prosecutors.

CHILD abuse and neglect cases in Aboriginal communities uncovered as part of the radical Northern Territory intervention have more than doubled, from 106 in 2007 to 247 last year.

The new figures, released by Indigenous Affairs Minister Jenny Macklin, also show that the 18 communities which have benefited from additional police account for 84 per cent of the increase in the number of child abuse and neglect reports made to police between 2007 and last year.

A Dexter couple is behind bars this morning following an investigation into a neglected infant.

According to Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney Briney Welborn, the three month old baby was not being fed adequately and reportedly has Down Syndrome.

KINSTON, N.C. – A 23 year old mom is in jail tonight facing charges for the death of her son.

Ashley Terrell is charged with first degree murder and one felony count of child abuse.

Her son, Jailyn McKoy died in November 2008.

WASHINGTON – Two ROTC instructors were indicted for child sexual abuse in unrelated cases by grand juries in two separate Maryland counties Wednesday.

The Howard County grand jury indicted a Bowie man, Charles Ray Moore, a JROTC instructor, charging him with having sexual contact with a 17-year-old member of the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program at Atholton High School in Columbia, the Baltimore Sun reported.

West Columbia, SC – Police say 29-year-old Jason Lemmon Sr. got all stabby with an 11-year-old kid before attempting to strangle another. According to authorities, Lemmon began the assault against the older boy by punching him in the face. He then stabbed the child in the upper torso at least three times – violently enough to break the knife.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – An assistant coach of a youth hockey team got pissed off at another player after they fouled his 17-year-old son after the whistle. Displaying a complete lack of forethought and two heaping handfuls of hot-headed stupidity, 50-year-old Ronald Synan entered the penalty box and confronted the 15-year-old Calvin Dickinson.

The new law, which went into effect Tuesday, states that anyone convicted of rape of a minor under 15, or a close family member, “can be obliged by a court ruling to undergo pharmaceutical and psychological therapy in order to reduce sex drive.”

OLYMPIA — An Olympia salon manager has been charged with four counts of first degree child rape.

Mark J. Ford is accused of forcing a young boy to perform sex acts on him over 100 times over a six-year period in the early 1990s.

WOBURN — A former girls basketball coach will spend at least 20 years in prison after years of manipulating and sexually assaulting young girls under his care at the Melrose YMCA, according to the terms of a plea agreement reached yesterday with the Middlesex district attorney’s office.

James Conner, 52, of North Reading, pleaded guilty to all 20 charges, including five counts of rape of a child with force and four counts of indecent assault and battery on a child, during a conference at Middlesex Superior Court in Woburn. By changing his plea, Conner avoided a trial in the case, which has dragged on for the past 16 months.
