ROSEBURG, Ore. — A teenage boy charged with the rape and murder of a 5-year-old girl told police he suffocated the child after she woke up while he was sexually abusing her, according to a court document.

Dustin Wallace, 16, told investigators that Sahara Dwight, who was asleep, jerked away when he started touching her early Friday, according to a probable cause affidavit filed by Roseburg police Detective Daniel Knott and released this week.

Louisa, VA – Police say an 8-year-old girl snuck out of her grandparent’s home in the wee hours of the morning last Thursday. At about 3:00 a.m., the child walked to a neighbor’s home and reported that she had been abused. “She had bruises all over her,” Sheriff Donald Lowe said. “Her ear had been partially torn. She had blood on her.” In addition to the torn ear, the girl had a broken foot, bruising on her head, legs and arms, and it appeared as if some of her hair had been torn out.

BUCYRUS, Kansas – The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has issued a Miami County daycare facility an Emergency Order of Suspension after its operator admitted to disciplining a child with a horse riding crop.

According to the emergency order, issued July 13, Shirley Joyce McClellan admitted using the crop to discipline at least one child and reported that she has swatted children with her hand and threatens them with getting a stick as form of punishment.

Award-winning director Roman Polanski will not be extradited to the United States and is free to leave says the Swiss Ministry of Justice.

CNN reports the request for extradition was denied because the U.S. did not supply all the legal information requested by the Swiss government, and because Polanski thought he would not be arrested in their country — despite an international warrant issued against him since 2005.
