A Springfield man has been charged with child abuse after authorities said his child’s injuries are consistent with Shaken Baby Syndrome.

Steven Kleber, 25, is accused of shaking his 7-week-old child while his wife was out of town.

Detroit, MI – Karonne Ivey’s three year-old daughter complained several times that her “tootie” hurt and expressed that something of a sexual nature had happened to her. Ivey says that what her daughter admitted was “shocking to me” and that she could not be lying. After checking her daughter at home, Ivey later took her to the emergency room of a children’s hospital for an examination. When it comes to sexual abuse, what are the signs parents should look for? PORTLAND — U.S. Marshals have arrested a man in Portland and charged him with 70 counts of sex abuse crimes against a child.

Monroe “Max” Macrae, 30, was taken into custody Thursday evening at 6900 NE Glisan St. He was taken to the Multnomah County jail and held on $17.5 million bail, said U.S. Marshals spokesman Cory Cunningham.

In the wake of a tragic death comes awareness and advocacy for victims of child abuse. 4–year–old Landon Payne died last December while in the care of his aunt Sharon Turnell, her husband Charles Turnell and daughter Katie Payne.

The three now face charges of aiding and abetting child abuse that led to death.

Damascus, Oregon (The Weekly Vice) – Barbara Whitehead, a 41-year-old Oregon woman was charged Wednesday after she allegedly married a man just two-hours after he was indicted for sexually abusing her 7-year-old daughter.

According to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, Whitehead apparently had a secret wedding with a man shortly after a grand jury indicted him on 45 felony counts of sexual abuse against the woman’s 7-year-old daughter.

MEXICO CITY — A newborn girl declared dead by doctors in Mexico surprised mourners when she came back to life inside her coffin. Hidalgo state Attorney General Jose Rodriguez says the parents heard a strange noise coming from the casket during the baby’s wake.

Cases of alleged child abuse in Japan have risen to their highest level since records began 10 years ago.

Police figures indicate 187 children were the suspected victims of physical and sexual abuse in the first half of this year. Eighteen children died.

The report also found that cases of child pornography in the same period had risen by about 60% to 599 cases.

NASHUA – A man is accused of kidnapping a 7-year-old child and trying to rape her, and also stalking two other 11-year-old girls and photographing them.
Daniel Casanova, 35, of 6 Ash Court, was arraigned this morning in Nashua District Court on felony charges of kidnapping, and attempted aggravated felonious sexual assault, and two counts of stalking, both class A misdemeanors.

A Lawrence basketball coach is facing child rape charges Monday.

Tyrone Farrar, 30, who is also a school security officer at the Frost School, was arraigned in Newburyport District Court on two counts of child rape and drug charges.

MASON, OHIO–State troopers arrested a man near Kings Island who was wanted on child rape charges.Authorities said Steven Davison Jr., who was taken into custody Wednesday, was wanted in Knox County on charges of rape, gross sexual imposition and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.

A Carson City man was jailed Saturday night on suspicion of physically abusing his young stepdaughter.

David Phillip Gawdun, 23, was booked into the Carson City Jail at 9:55 p.m. Saturday on suspicion of felony child abuse with physical injury and misdemeanor domestic battery. According to the police report, Gawdun and his wife brought her 20-month-old daughter to the emergency room about 6 p.m. Saturday with injuries to her face.

The child had bruising under her left eye, on her left cheek, above her left eyebrow, on her left temple and head and on her left ear, according to the arrest report.

SMITHFIELD – The mother of 4-year-old Teghan Skiba faces child-abuse charges after investigators determined that she saw her boyfriend abuse the child before leaving her in his care.

Helen R. Reyes, 27, of 5255 Passenger Place near Garner, was charged Thursday morning with felony negligent child abuse causing serious bodily injury.

North Providence Fire Lieutenant Albert Peterson, 42, has been arrested and charged with child abuse towards his 15-year old son. The abuse has been described as physical.

According to North Providence Police, Peterson turned himself into police on Monday and was arraigned before a clerk magistrate on 2nd degree child abuse charges.

VERNAL — A Vernal woman was sentenced to up to 20 years in prison for hanging her 5-year-old son upside down so long that his toes and parts of his feet had to be amputated. Eighth District Judge A. Lynn Payne sentenced Michele Napolitano, 32, to a total of 20 years on six counts of intentionally inflicting serious injury on a child. He said he hoped Napolitano would serve her full sentence.

Napolitano was arrested for not seeking medical treatment for serious injuries to the boy’s feet, which eventually required amputation of his toes. Investigators described his wounds similar to those seen on a “severe burn victim with open blisters and bleeding sores.”
