San Antonio, Texas (The Weekly Vice) – Jonathan Reyes-Espinoza, a 21-year-old Texas man was jailed Saturday after he allegedly beat a baby’s head against the wall after the child’s mother refused to help him with work. According to police, the mother of a 1-year-old child was awaken Friday afternoon when Espinoza told the woman that she needed to get up and help him with some work. When the woman refused, Espinoza began shouting, which awoke the woman’s baby. Investigators say Espinoza became irate at the crying baby and threatened to snap the toddler’s neck in retaliation. When the woman still refused to bend to his will, he allegedly picked the child up and beat her head against a wall.

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) – A young mother makes a startling and disturbing admission as police arrive on the scene of a car accident in Montgomery Monday. Officers say they responded to a car wreck in the 1300 block of Woodley Road only to learn from the traffic victim that she’d intentionally slammed her automobile into a power pole in an effort to kill herself and two of her children. Tia Thompson, 23, and two of her four children, ages three and four, were transported to Jackson Hospital for what turned out to be minor injuries. Thompson hadn’t strapped either child into a safety seat and she didn’t have a seat belt on either.

PARIS, France (KTLA) — A 18-month boy appeared unhurt after falling seven stories and bouncing off an awning into a man’s arms, witnesses told Le Parisien newspaper. Witnesses said the child and a sibling had been left alone briefly Monday in their seventh-floor apartment. Somehow, the toddler fell out a window, but a boy on the street saw what was happening and alerted his father, who caught the child after he bounced off the awning of a tobacco shop and cafe on the building’s ground floor, the paper reported.

SOUTH PASADENA (KTLA) — Police are looking for a paroled sex offender who removed his GPPS locator and disappeared. Department is presently looking for a habitual sex offender who is a parolee-at-large. Stanley Morrow resides at the South Pasadena Convalescent Hospital located at 904 Mission Street in the City of South Pasadena. Morrow recently removed his GPS tracking device resulting in him being out of compliance and in violation of the terms and conditions of his parole. He is described as a 54 year-old male African-American, 5’9″ and 140 lbs., with a black/grey mustache. Morrow is listed as armed and dangerous.

SIOUX FALLS, SD – Sioux Falls police arrested a registered sex offender, 43-year-old Sandor Czekus, Sunday afternoon and he now faces a list of new sex charges. That includes first-degree rape, having and manufacturing child pornography and having sexual contact with a child younger than 16. Police say the victim in this case is just two years old. But this isn’t the first time he’s been in trouble with the law. Czekus was found guilty of sodomizing a 16-year-old girl in 2002 in Missouri. He moved to Sioux Falls four years later and is now facing more serious charges.

DUNEDIN — Detective John Grubb was off-duty, strolling the Publix. He grabbed the bananas, the zucchini, and headed to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription for his boxer, Maxine. Another shopper caught his attention. Grubb knew Thomas Manning Hook was a registered sex offender. He knew Hook had a history of impersonating cops. Then Grubb saw something that made him abandon his shopping cart: Hook had a sheriff’s badge clipped to his waist.

On her first Halloween in Redmond, she played the role of party hostess by opening up her apartment to friends, neighbors and strangers. On Oct. 31, 2008, the 24-year-old software programmer hosted more than two dozen people who rotated between her apartment and three others, said Redmond police Detective Brian Coats. Among the people she met that night was a man who, unbeknown to her, was a violent sex offender, Coats said.

The Canadian Centre for Child Protection took in 442 tips about possible child pornography this year, a 126% increase, thanks to a law passed in 2009 requiring all Manitobans report suspected child abuse images. Police are getting a lot more help cracking down on child pornography. An avalanche of tips have come in since Manitoba passed a law making it mandatory to report child abuse images. The Canadian Centre for Child Protection says it had 442 tips about possible child pornography this year, compared to 196 last year. That’s a 126% increase since April 2009, when the law was changed to require all Manitobans to report suspected child porn.

WINNEBAGO COUNTY, Wis. (WTAQ) – Police are recommending drunken homicide charges against a 27-year-old Oshkosh area woman, after authorities found her baby in a submerged SUV. Winnebago County sheriff’s deputies said today they’ll recommend an OWI charge against Kayla Westenberger of Omro, as well as a count of homicide by intoxicated driving. Deputies were called late Saturday night to the Eureka boat landing on the Fox River in southwest Winnebago County. There, they found 8-month-old Richard Westenberger, who was in the partially-submerged SUV.

San Francisco — Despite being shielded by her grandfather, a 3-year-old girl coming home from trick-or-treating was seriously wounded in a gang-motivated shooting on Halloween outside her Potrero Hill home, police said Monday. The girl, who turned 3 last month, was walking with her 52-year-old grandfather and 24-year-old mother just outside the 25th Street housing development when shots were fired at 10:02 p.m., San Francisco police said. She was wounded three times but is expected to survive.

Pittsburgh, PA — According to police, 42-year-old Karen Remsing decided to help herself to a dose of her terminally ill son’s pain medications this past Sunday. Remsing, a registered nurse, reportedly disconnected a computerized intravenous injection tube supplying Midazolam to her 15-year-old son, and filled several hypodermic needles stolen from a hospital supply cart before injecting herself with the sedative. The loopy woman then tried to reconnect the IV tube back into the machine, but screwed it up, causing an air bubble in the line. Fortunately, the potentially fatal air bubble did not enter her son’s body.

EUCLID, Ohio —Police say someone played a dirty trick while handing out Halloween treats. Investigators are now trying to figure out who gave out rat poison along with candy Sunday night. “We came home, dumped out their candy and there it was… rat poison,” said Lisa York, a mother. York and her husband Doug took three of their children trick-or-treating in their Euclid neighborhood Sunday evening. While she was checking their treats, York noticed an unusual packet mixed in with 13-year-old DJ’s candy. It turned out to be rat poison.

NEWBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Some kids trick-or-treating a few days early at the Conewago Valley Mobile Home Park got the fright of their lives when they went to collect candy from a 68-year-old resident. What they found was his corpse lying outside his front door, a victim of a self-inflicted gunshot to the head. “They saw him lying there, but they though it was a Halloween decoration until they got close and they realized it was real,” said Newberry Township resident Donna Jones. Police don’t know when the man killed himself or how long he had been lying on his front step, but think that anyone who had seen the body may have thought it was simply a Halloween prop.

ELYRIA, Ohio — A registered sexual offender is being held in the Lorain County Jail, on charges that he exposed himself to two teenage girls on Monday. Matthew Trakas, 41, is facing two counts of public indecency. Trakas was arrested after the girls told investigators the registered sexual predator was completely naked in his doorway while putting up Halloween decorations. Trakas lives across the street from St. Mary’s Catholic School and was in full view of the school.
