REDDING, Calif. — The father of an 8-year-old boy who police found bloodied and beaten with a baseball bat is under arrest on suspicion of attempted murder. Redding police say 53-year-old Geoffrey Kelly flew into a rage on Thursday morning and struck his son multiple times with an aluminum baseball bat.

LAKE FOREST, CA– A 36-year-old married woman is accused flying across the country to have sex with a 13-year-old boy she befriended while playing X-Box Live online. Rachel Ann Hicks was taken into custody Friday by Orange County sheriff’s investigators. Sheriff’s investigator say the woman initially “met” the boy in September in an X-Box live chat room, Orange County Sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino said.

RENOVO – A local man is jailed on $200,000 bail, charged with several sex crimes against two known juvenile males over the course of four years, according to state police at Lamar. Magisterial District Judge Frank P. Mills arraigned Jeffrey Alan Glossner, 47, of Fifth Street, on two separate incidents involving alleged sexual activity with minors. According to court papers, Renovo police officer Curt Marinon was called by a family member of one of the juveniles on Dec. 29, 2009.

The costs of child abuse to society are considerable. In 2008, Prevent Child Abuse America released the second comprehensive report on the direct (immediate intervention) and indirect (long-term) costs of child abuse and neglect in America. The report estimates that the United States spends $103.8 billion annually in response to child abuse (Wang and Holton, 2007).

Sullivan County, Tenn. — The people who investigate child abuse claims in Sullivan County say the number of cases rose dramatically last year. The number of physical and sexual child abuse cases referred to the Sullivan County District Attorney’s office in 2010 was 929, according to a report compiled by the DA’s office. In 2009, that number was 715. “There is a problem and it’s probably greater than the average citizen understands,” said Assistant DA Barry Staubus. Staubus works with Children’s Advocacy Center Forensic Interviewer Amy Whitt-Bachman when prosecuting child abuse cases.

Panama City Police arrested the couple early yesterday morning, after a relative took their child to the hospital with 6 broken bones. Panama City Police arrested 21 year old Courtney Shaunte Lucille Hawkins and 25 year old Joseph Tyrell Duhon early Tuesday morning on a number of drug and weapons charges, but it was a child abuse investigation that initially brought authorities to their apartment.

Sex Slave’s 20-Year Ordeal: Fla. Man Convicted–FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A California child molester has been convicted in Florida of additional federal charges that could send him to prison for 30 years. Prosecutors said Thursday that 66-year-old George Joseph England was found guilty by a jury of five charges involving his lengthy abuse of a young girl he met in Vietnam in the early 1970s.

A married couple have been jailed for assaulting children at the former Jersey children’s home Haut de la Garenne in the 1970s and 1980s. Morag Jordan, 62, from Kirriemuir in Angus, Scotland, was given a nine-month term for eight charges of assaults against four vulnerable children while working at the home. Her husband Anthony, also 62, was sentenced to six months for eight charges involving two boys. They were found guilty in November 2010 following a two-week trial at the Royal Court of Jersey and sentenced today (Thursday).

ALBANY- Phillip Riback, 41, of Cohoes, pled guilty to one count of Sex Abuse in the First Degree. On December 17, 2001, at 3 Atrium Drive, Suite 200 (Upstate Neurology Consultants), in the Town of Colonie, Riback subjected a child less than 11 years old to sexual contact consisting of placing his face in contact with the child’s genitals through clothing for his own sexual gratification.

IUKA, Miss. _ Iuka police have charged two people with felony child abuse and child neglect charges. Police Chief Randy Stringer tells WTVA.com Jennifer Hale Belue, 30, and Johnny Lee Massengill, 27, were officially charged Wednesday and are currently in the Tishomingo County Jail. He says police were called to a home at 1330 W. Ash St. in the city to check on the welfare of a three year old boy.

40 year old Michael Hall is behind bars on a $100,000 bond and his case has been bound over by a Grand Jury.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — A 40-year-old woman fought back against 2 carjackers, refusing to leave her vehicle without her 1-year-old child who was in the backseat. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Dept. said two suspects punched the woman and maced her as she tried to get her child out of the truck. They struck her in the head a couple of times and demanded the keys to her 2002 Chevrolet truck, sheriff’s Sgt. Kevin Smith told the Press Enterprise.

It is outrageous and unacceptable that Pennsylvania has a child abuse hot line that routinely “misses” calls from people trying to report neglected, beaten or sexually abused children.Nearly 10 percent of callers to the statewide hot line last year failed to deliver their tips to officials who might have intervened and saved a life or a lifetime of psychological turmoil. Through November of this year, according to the state Department of Public Welfare, 10,805 calls to the phone number did not get through.
